Remember, it costs money to park, so those people using Airtrain already paid to park (and don't tell me Howard Beach has some disproportionate amount of people that walks from their homes to take a plane with their luggage).
Also remember, that the subway does not cost $2 for most people*, nor does Airtrain cost $5 either**, so the $ figures are high.

*Subway fare is $1.67 for pay per ride (Every $10 = $12 Metrocard) or less as many people have weekly, monthly, and other Metrocard discounts). Nobody that uses the subway more than just in passing pays $2.

**AirTrain fare would be round trip $4, buy a $10 card, get $12 on the card, and have two dollars left on it (after only spending $10) after using it round trip (or even if only one way, you would have $7 on it after buying the $10 card). No one using transit in the Metro area for more than just in passing would not buy the $10 card to get $12. And that extra $2 also would cover you subway fare, so that $7 number is inaccurate.
Furthermore, I believe for regular users, there is a monthly that costs $50 for unlimited use. Those using it for work would only spend about $1 a trip on it. Furthermore, there is also a 10 trip deal too, but I forgot how much that cost, but either way, $5, $7, $2, all those numbers are wrong, as well as this ridiculous notion of an invisiable pedestrian barrier.
