Look at the ratings on Univision. They sometimes win the 18-34 demo in top U.S. cities, which shows that there's an attitude among younger latinos to isolate themselves from the English speaking mainstream.

Just because a second generation American's grandparents are in their 60's or 70's does not mean they always were. My grandparents were in the 18-34 demographic when they immigrated. I would have expected similar patterns back then, had radio or television been around. Instead, there were more foreign language dailies published in NYC than English language ones.

Add up Telemundo, Telefutura, Galavision, Fox Sports, and all the other nets, and you have more people watching Spanish television in LA or NYC than Guadalajara or Monterrey, Mexico.

At one time there were more Jews living in NYC than in all of Israel.

Even more astounding is the percentage of Irish who emigrated during the potato famine. There were probably more Irish living in Boston than in Dublin.
