...in fact, I think it's better than now than it used to be. We are MUCH more accepting of foreign cultures than we used to be.

When my mother's family came here, they even had to change their names to "more American sounding names". For example, "Helena" became Helen, and so forth....the american versions of the names.

Imagine asking a "Miguel" to be a "Mike" nowadays (against his will, I am not talking about people willfully doing that). While it may still happen, it's totally acceptable to be a "Miguel" today, whereas it wasn't decades ago. It's actually sort of "trendy" to have non-American sounding names nowadays.
