They didn't speak English when they arrived but needed to drive to get to work to start making a living and paying taxes. They learned English quickly enough. My dad even took ESL classes.My mother and grandfather needed to drive too and "start making a living and paying taxes", and they didn't have Dutch forms, documents, etc. They too learned English (as they had to, as they weren't babied with their native language all over the place here) quickly enough, as they had to. Making it easier for people (by babying the with Spanish signs, documents, etc) actually makes it harder for those people to assimilate in the long run. |
