Most can speak at least a little, but they are afraid of being laughed at because they mispronounce words. Plus people always tell them that they can't understand them so they get self-conscious and stop trying.That's nothing new. My grandparents and mother and aunts and uncles were also laughed at when they tried to speak English. ALL immigrants go through that, the Spanish are no different. |
