The hotel personnel disappeared for an hour in the afternoon. I discovered they were watching English lessons on the television.Many countries are like that. Even Mexico. Those aren't the type of people who come here though. Absolutely. Compare India, for example, to Mexico. India is a much poorer country than Mexico, yet Indian immigrants in America are far better off than Mexican immigrants. Why is this so? It's because most of the immigrants coming from Mexico are poor uneducated campesinos, which is turn is at least in part attributable to the fact that getting from Mexico to the United States is relatively easy. Coming here from India is far more costly and difficult, so Indian immigrants tend to be from that country's more affluent segments. If most Indian immigrants were Untouchables, Indian immigrants would be worse off than the Mexicans. My LIRR/NYCT blog |
