What tourist traps? The aforementioned pubs, among others. WTF? NYC has thousands of interesting restaurants and you'd bring your own food because you think it's a tourist trap? I'm only concerned about the ones around the High Line in case I get hungry and/or thirsty while I'm there. Anyplace else, no big deal. McDonalds!?!!? I really hope you're joking. Unless maybe you think that the pretty young European damsels in loose fitting non-conservative attire congregate at McDonalds... I could not have cared less where the pretty young European damsels congregate, unless it means they'll be in my way. |

Wages are almost irrelevant to prices in Manhattan restaurants, even McD. The vast majority of operating cost is for rent. $10/square foot per month is normal nowadays. It goes up from there.Note: demand holds down prices too, of course. If not for the reluctance of people to pay an absolute fortune for each meal, landlords would charge even more rent and resaurant owners would charge even more for meals. |

My personal observation is it's the food delivery bicyclists who are predominately heading the wrong way up one way streets in the bike lane. That said, ever ride the 8th Ave bike lane by the Port Authority Bus Terminal to about 46th Street during the afternoon rush hour? It's a pedestrian free-for all. Even the cops double-park their cars in the bike lane between 42nd & 43rd. How do you expect John & Jane Q. Public to respect the bike lane law when Fred Q. Officer doesn't even do it?--Mark |

For many years, I biked to the supermarket if not walking to the closer one, often biked to jobsite after most of the tools and parts were there for a long project, or to BART to take on the far end for further travel. None of this was ideological; it was both convenient and pleasant. |

That's why I proposed an LIRR service, funded by the city, that provides 20min headways at all city zone stations (except Far Rockaway, Douglaston, and Little Neck) (30 min headways during late nights) that would charge a fare comparable to the existing express bus fare and allows free transfers to the subway/bus. You could also charge $3.50 for service between intermediate points (those not going to NYP/GCT/FBA) |

Good point, but it’s probably the best option IF it eventually comes into fruition since it would be a miracle if even that portion gets built. Remember that it would be a massive undertaking to build the full Utica/Stuyvesant subway and connect it to S 4 St which would be probably the only logical route. And has been mentioned in other posts, with the disconnecting of the Houston St express tracks for a potential S 4 St line there is really no practical place for such a route to go. |

Well now anything coming under the river into Houston St will have to be routed up 2nd Av. I'd leave the M as is. SAS between 63rd St and Houston would have to be 4 tracks if there's any hope of expanding the subway network where needed (Utica Av, Rockaway, eastern Queens). My idea being that SAS is comprised of:T running Bronx, SAS, Fulton St local Q running 125th St crosstown, SAS to 63rd St, Broadway, Brighton U running Utica, S4th, SAS to 63rd St, Queens Super Express, Rockaway X running Eastern Queens, Queens Super Express (via Lower Montauk and Bushwick branch), S4th, SAS from Houston to 63rd St, and then back out to eastern Queens somewhere |
