Crystal is a normal name. Mangum (not Magnum) is the last name. She may be related to Willie Mangum, the South Carolina candidate* of the Whig Party in the 1836 presidential election. The Whigs nominated four different people in different regions on the expectation that they could deny Martin Van Buren of a majority and force the Whig controlled House to choose a Whig president. It didn't work and Van Buren became the last Vice President to be elected President in his own right until 1968 (or 1988 if you only count right after his VP term).*I'm not sure if he was actually nominated by the party. From 1836-1860 South Carolina was the only state not to have a presidential election and instead had the legislature choose the electors. And no, I didn't look any of this up. |
