Yes, and I think that's a big reason so many more girls identify as bisexual, because there certainly can't be any more now than just a few years ago; bisexuality is more socially acceptable (God bless Katy Perry). The same is probably true for men to an extent.That being said, there are some non-genetic, non-social factors that are probably at play, such as the uterine environment (later born males as more likely to be gay than their brothers, as mothers make antibodies to androgens). As well developmental noise probably plays a big role (the same reason MZ twins have different fingerprints). But some point out the effect of cultural forces, as obviously homosexuality was more common in ancient Greece and Rome. But even then, we don't know how common homosexuality truly was back then, and the genetic makeup of the population could have even been different. |
