Just run it 57th Street, which has been done before during planned service changes, by using the crossover just south of 57th St. Station. Then there is no confusion (Upper Manhattan or Queens terminus) and anyone who wants to continue to Queens just takes the F on the same platform. |

Except that would interfere with the (F) potentially. That's why I would have the (M) go to 145 on weekends since it would not be able to interfere with any other line (the part of running on CPW would be a bonus for people there). Since the (M) already has different terminals on weekends I doubt that many would be confused, especially if posted signs made it CLEAR that the (M): WEEKDAYS goes to 71st-Continental in Queens WEEKENDS goes to 145th Street-8th Avenue in Manhattan. Not perfect, but it solves the problem of the (M) going to 71-Continental on weekends. |

Since the (M) already has different terminals on weekends I doubt that many would be confused, especially if posted signs made it CLEAR that the (M): Huh? The current weekend terminal is just a truncation of the existing service (the Q terminating at 57/7 on weekends and the M terminating at Myrtle/Broadway late nights are the same idea). Sending it to a different route entirely is a completely different matter! |

I think when Queensbridge (and the 63rd St line) first opened, they needed an overnight service and the F was elected, but initially rather than having three different lines going there regularly (the Q on weekdays, the B on weekends, and the F late nights), they thought it better to just designate the F trains as "Q" overnight once they got to Broadway Lafayette. I guess the main objective being met there was making sure people on 6th Ave at night didn't get on an F thinking they were headed for Eastern Queens. |

I think that can be done (OPTO 4-car trains):Don't forget, the CPW portion would be extra service just being done because 145th is the easiest place to turn. Main purpose would be to have 6th Avenue service on weekends. |

Actually, it would only be on a different route on it's northern end for very specific reasons:1. Not being able to do track work on QB to run to 71-Continental on weekends. 2. 145 is in this scenario the easiest place to turn. |

Might as well revive the K name at that rate. At least you'd be consistent: the M and B would always follow the same route (taking into account truncations), the new service would follow the new pattern. |

This isn't regular service but it's interesting... I've been on a 5 rerouted to the west side IRT due to a service disruption, and it changed itself to a 2 train at 135th. Granted the terminal is the same, and it would run local in Brooklyn, but it made me do a double-take. I feel that those of us that ride the IRT in Manhattan are used to seeing the 2 on the 5 or vice versa already. |

One time a train of R40 slants on the orange Q coming down from Manhattan couldn't gain access to the Brighton Line for whatever reason so it was sent via the West End and around Coney Island to get to Brighton Beach. The side roll signs stayed as Q but the driver changed the front sign to B (the West End service at the time). |
