I think when Queensbridge (and the 63rd St line) first opened, they needed an overnight service and the F was elected, but initially rather than having three different lines going there regularly (the Q on weekdays, the B on weekends, and the F late nights), they thought it better to just designate the F trains as "Q" overnight once they got to Broadway Lafayette. I guess the main objective being met there was making sure people on 6th Ave at night didn't get on an F thinking they were headed for Eastern Queens. |
