Station dwells are increased because a full length train of 75 foot cars has 32 doors per side versus 40 on a 60 foot car. That's why the R143s and R160s are 60 footers. Plus,60 footers can run anywhere on the IND and BMT. 75 footers cannot operate on the J/Z, M, or L lines so equipment flexibility is not 100% as would be the case with 60 footers. |
