They are not going to keep equipment at Fresh Pond only for use on weekends

What do you think those 143s were doing Monday to Friday? Because they were not sent back at the end of their shifts.

You proposal saves no money

Where in any of this did I mention saving money?
Actually, what it will save is some level of time and effort. Since train crews can no longer cut in the station, they now have to bring the train into the yard, cut it there and then return the halves to service. My suggestion is to simply park it and run the 5 car sets.

and serves no purpose.

Purpose is to provide more transportation capacity in a rapidly growing section of the city that needs it. Bushwick and Ridgewood have been growing like crazy in the last ten years, but we still must rely on the Three Stooges division for our transportation needs. The MTA has already said that the J will be running to Broad Street all hours starting next year, to provide 14,000 people with the transfer options at Fulton Street. This area is becoming popular and populated. There are no less than 5 luxury apartment developments in various stages of completion within about 5 blocks of my house alone.

The only benefit would be the train is 5 cars rather than 4.
Yes, which would provide that capacity increase I was discussing.
