If you feel like your life is in danger, having one day of training, or two decades of training doesn't make a lick of difference. By the way, at least in New York City, most police agencies, when you advance in your career, you have several weeks, sometimes months of training each and every year. It doesn't end at the Academy. I know where I was in my career, I had training annually several times a year, in fact lots of courses were college credits. |

If bad habits are taught initially, then reinforcing them with additional training won't cure those bad habits. 2. From a quantitative perspective, Norway's police undergo 3 years or 156 weeks of training before they start full time. NYPD's initial 19 weeks leaves a deficit of 137 weeks. It would take 20 years of 6 week refreshers to match what the Norway policeman starts with. |

Minority neighborhoods historically get reduced city services, tend not to have good schools (teachers don't want to be assigned there, so these schools become punitive transfer sites), and have lower tax bases, so they don't have the kind of political pull that places like the UES do. Because housing projects are overwhelmingly located in minority-majority neighborhoods (the Pomonok Houses in Flushing and the Lincoln Houses next to the Met are exceptions), these areas also get short shrift in things like street maintenance and urban planning. This is just a small set of examples. |

Countries with the lowest number of citizens killed per capita are those whose police are not armed. Police training in these countries emphasizes how to control situations without using guns. Even with armed insurrections, Home Secretary Winston Churchill was famous for diffusing the Sydney Street siege without guns. |
