When someone goes to buy a gun, they should pay additional taxes beyond simple sales tax on the purchase. Point is to make guns expensive. Even a gun runner would be paying these, like someone buying "legally" (actually sham transactions) in places like Virginia to bring into NY. Point here is that a far more expensive gun purchase outlay would mean they could buy and transport fewer to begin with. We're seeking to reduce sheer numbers here. If guns were heavily taxed and exorbitantly expensive, much fewer would be bought and trafficked.Criminals steal guns from "legitimate" owners. That's somewhat more difficult and a resolvable problem in keeping the gun locked away in a secure heavy safe when not being used. The money collected could go for enforcement and a fund for innocent victims of gun violence. |
