There is nothing wrong with keeping a loaded, unlocked gun. The Supreme Court has said that such bans in the home are unconstitutional. The problem is not that the guns are loaded and unlocked, it is that people are careless in the operation of the gun and do not teach everyone in their house the proper respect for what a gun can do so how to handle it safely. A gun should never be in a place where it can be reached by someone who does not know how to properly handle it when it is loaded. A locked, unloaded gun is useless in home defense |
