And every day people kill people with automobiles and flee the scene of an accident and nobody knows who did it so they cannot get compensated. The driver may or may not have insurance. Once again you are pointing to an extreme case to eradicate the Constitutional rights of law abiding citizens. That I have a serious problem with even if I would never personally own a gun, because if you allow it in this case how do you not limit it in others?
