Here are a few....

N/R/W - 2 tunnel bellmouths located south of Whitehall Street

E - The extra tunnel extension north (east) of Parsons-Archer

D/M/N/R - Lower level of 36th Street/4th Avenue

F/V - 2 stubs extending about one train-length south of 2nd Avenue (middle tracks where the V terminates)

F - Though mentioned already, 2 stubs located adjacent to Lexington Avenue - 63rd Street

N/Q/R/W - Two tunnel extensions, no track, north of 57th Street - 7th Avenue adjacent to the local tracks

A/C - Only seen by employees of NYCT, there are tunnel sections closed off by a false wall north (east) of the C relay tracks at Euclid Avenue, with mention that not far beyond that is a partially built station underground there at 75th Street

G/R/V - Tunnel bellmouth located off the northbound local track at Roosevelt Avenue, also a little way down by Woodhaven Blvd (Slattery Plaza) are additional tunnel bellmouths, all together would have lead to a line known as the Winfield Spur

D - North of 205th Street, though used for D relays, is a trainlength tunnel extension on both tracks, slated to had become a line extending towards Co-Op City originally

2nd Avenue - And of course we must mention the 2nd Avenue "stubway" segments

F- 179th Street, the small layup yard on both levels north (east) of 179th Street Station, which was planned for an extension of the F train to the city line (Braddock Avenue I believe)

R - 95th Street, very small tunnel bellmouths for a one time planned extension to Staten Island

N/Q - Just off the Manhattan Bridge after entering into Manhattan lie the remnants of the connection between the J/M/Z and the Broadway Line

Also.........

38th Street Yard/9th Avenue Station - Not only do we have the lower level of 9th Avenue, but also small stubs which was once part of the South Brooklyn Railroad that extend a short distance east of 9th Avenue (lower level) and the refuse train platform in 38th Street Yard. Also of note north (west) of 9th Avenue, there are two disused trackways which were due to have lead to a line running over 5th Avenue.

MacDonald Avenue - Several small stretches of track and rails existed in the pavement on MacDonald Avenue, and the track which lead into Coney Island Yard from the street track of the SBK STILL exists, though disused and cut off physically from the street. The stub track still is there, somewhere below the leads from off the F Line to the Culver Yard section of Coney Island Yard

G - Bedford-Nostrand Avenue - tunnel way with relay track exists, which was originally due to connect to a line which would have been the S. 4th Street - Utica Avenue Line
(http://www.nycsubway.org/articles/indsecond.html...this link would help shed light on what you wanna know too!!)

Also........

A/C/E - Lower level of 42nd Street - Port Authority Bus Terminal, now physically disconnected at both ends from the A/C line (in 2004). This was where several subway segments in the movie "Ghost" (1990) were filmed, namely the scene where Patrick Swayze was learning from the ghost how he can strike and make contact with objects.

2/5 - E.180th Street, the old NYWB station and stub tracks east of the E.180 Street station (the trackage and viaduct which once extended south and connected to the NH (now Amtrak) Hell Gate Line was removed and torn down in 2003.

5 - Pelham Parkway, middle trackways. One has no track, the other had the middle track added in the early 2000s, and extends from Morris Park to Dyre, and were used for R-142 testing. The track ways are holdovers from the former owner, the NYWB.

2/5 - White Plains Road El, Gun Hill Road, the lower level structure which once held the right of way of the Third Avenue El tracks.

That should be looked upon in the future.. I'm sure they could squeeze in an extended (W) train down 4th Avenue where it would then swing over to Tompkinsville, SI after 59th.

There is a little bellmouth off the "R" and "V" east of 63 Drive, which would have gone down 66 Avenue and on to WhitePot Junction and so to Rockaway via the former LIRR line. There is supposed to be a corresponding one on the citybound side with a reported flyover, but I've not seen it.

A Bellmouth on the "C" south of Canal Street was to lead to Worth Street subway.

Another joins the citybound "C" east of Broadway Junction.

In addition there are a few others:

1) Along the elevated pathway for the #2 and #5 lines between the Jackson Avenue and 149th Street-Third Avenue station lie the elevated track supports for the Third AVenue Elevated line. In addition upon further travel to the Third AVenue station stand the track supports for the elevated portion of the line in its very early history before the tunnel section for the current #2 and #5 lines were built.

2) North of the West Farms Square station lie the track supports for the West 180th Street-Bronx Park terminal of the westside IRT lines, in operation well before the extension of the route to East 180th Street and White Plains Road.

3) Between the 167th Street and 161st Street stations on the Jerome Avenue line there are the track supports and pathway for the Ninth Avenue elevated line.

4) North of the Utica Avenue station platforms in Brooklyn is where the tunnel widens for the Utica Avenue branch of the IRT that was not built.

5) The whole Queensborough Plaza complex contains the remains of the elevated trackways and supports for the half of the station that was demolished, as well as some of the pathways for the connection to/from the Second Avenue elevated subway across the 59th Street Bridge.

6) Just south of the Rector Street station lie the tracks for the long time loop terminal of the #1 line at South Ferry. Since the opening of the current modern terminal for the #1 line, many have wondered where those tracks lead to.

7) Between the Broadway Junction station and the Sutter Avenue station of the L line in Brooklyn, lie the trackage and support columns for the Fulton Street elevated line.

Just a few.
Mike

Four more ...

N/Q: Just north of Canal Street, stubs for a line under Canal Street.

Roosevelt Ave / Jackson Heights, Queens: Upper level station and a 750' trackway, known as the Winfield Spur, part of the IND Second System.

Nevins Street (2/3): Stubs north of Nevins Street (upper) that led to a lower level station.

A very slight provision on the Chambers Street-bound curve between Bowery & Canal on the Nassau Street line; I forget what this was for

The tunnel portal of the the IRT Subway was completed in 1904.
The 3rd ave El structure was completed to 149th St in 1889.

This is a pre WWI Post card image of the IRT Subway at 149th St. The 3rd Ave El structure appears in the center of the picture above the retaining wall. In 1916 the Bergen St cutoff structure would cover this portal entrance. The Bergen St cutoff structure was removed about 1951. The supporting columns of the structure were left in the walls of the buildings that were constructed alongside the subway ROW.

This is an overhead view of Bronx Hub area at 149th St shwoing (from the bottom left) the 3rd Ave El and the Bergen Cutoff diverging at 144th St on PROW. The 3rd Ave El proceeds north onto 3rd Ave to the 149th St station. The Bergen Cutoff Stucture (built in 1916) goes east to Willis Ave the curves on to Bergen St and follows the IRT Subway ROW to the Westchester Ave elevated structure. The 3rd Ave line 150th St connector (built in 1904) junction is North of the 149th St Station and goes east to the Westchester Ave structure. The 150th St connector and the Bergen Cutoff was a flying junction on a double deck el two track structure where it joined the Westchester Ave structure before ramping down to a three track structure at St Anns Ave as shown below.

The one on Hillside Ave that you mentioned, that's the reason why Hillside Ave widens so considerably after 216 St. Springfield Bvld was supposed to be the end of the line in the first draft of the Second System plans; the second draft had the line going all the way to where the Cross Island Pkwy now runs. Slight correction on one of the earlier posts. The bellmouths at Woodhaven Blvd on both ends of both local platforms were provisions for the eventual conversion of the station to an express stop in the event the demographics warranted it. N/O Roosevelt Av on the S/B side, there is also a bellmouth with a ramp ascending to the upper level and which did have a layup track on it at one time. The N/B bellmouth doesn't appear to be long enough to have ever had any track installed, but on the Roosevelt Av interlocking machine there are spare levers for the necessary signals and switches and if you look carefully, you can see where the tracks were once displayed on the model board but have been painted out. Just N/O the ramp on the S/B lcl track there is a home signal D1-1415 which has had the lower portion lenses covered over and now functions as an automatic signal. Due to new signalling being installed in the area the signal will soon be removed if it hasn't been already. The bellmouths mentioned at Utica Av on the IRT are South of the ststion, not north since the S/E of the station is a bit west of Utica Av itself. There are probably a few more places on the system that I can't recall at the moment but I'll try to post tem as I think of them unless someone else post them first so I'll try not to duplicate.

The stubs north of Canal Street was supposed to have been the original route for the BMT coing across the Manhattan Bridge.

The upper level station at Roosevelt Ave was to have been a 2 track terminal. The local tracks would have joined the Queensboro line just before coing into the lower level at Roosevelt Avenue.

The stubs leading to the lower level at Nevins St would have started between Atlantic Ave and Nevins St. I get the impression the lower level at Nevins St would have allowed IRT trains to across the Manhattan Bridge.

That slight provision on the Chambers Street-bound curve between Bowery & Canal on the Nassau Street line I think was meant to connect with the IRT line at Spring Street. For a while The BRT had a chance of running some trains on the IRT lines. There was an unwillingness at the time by the IRT to allow the BRT to run service into mid-town Manhattan.

Actually, the lower level at Nevins only exists on the S/B side. For many years all that was visible S/O Hoyt St was a bellmouth since the ramp was sealed behind a false wall. I don't know when it was removed but the false wall is now gone and the entire ramp is exposed. S/O Nevins St, the IND subway passes through the up ramp from the lower level so it can not be used for any kind of service.

That entire area of Brooklyn is confusiing with all the subways lines that were built and the lines that were planned. South of Hoyt wasn't there a ramp that seemingly would have allowed the IRT to continue along Fulton Street? Another route that would have allowed the IRT to go toward Queens via Lafayette Ave? And another slight stub that would have allowed the IRT to go along 4th Avenue?

A very slight provision on the Chambers Street-bound curve between Bowery & Canal on the Nassau Street line; I forget what this was for

Third Avenue Subway?

There are trackways for two additional tracks and one additional platform at Chambers St. You can see them from the right side of a Williamsburg Bridge-bound Curly or sZemp train (or a Moe when it's running to Bay Parkway) just after leaving the station.

Actually there ARE tunnel bellmouths at 95th Street!!! At the bumping block ends of both tracks, the tunnel depression is clear enough, and you can look at its design and tell it was intended for much more...TRUST ME, I think I have well knowledge of it!!! ;-) They are impressed into the end wall about a few feet in, the bumping blocks rest within them.
