Posted by Michael549 on Wed Mar 4 12:03:04 2009, in response to Re: Tunnel stubs, posted by Train Man Paul : Metro-North's Best Conductor FOR ALL 3 LINES!!! on Tue Mar 3 20:27:49 2009. In addition there are a few others:1) Along the elevated pathway for the #2 and #5 lines between the Jackson Avenue and 149th Street-Third Avenue station lie the elevated track supports for the Third AVenue Elevated line. In addition upon further travel to the Third AVenue station stand the track supports for the elevated portion of the line in its very early history before the tunnel section for the current #2 and #5 lines were built. 2) North of the West Farms Square station lie the track supports for the West 180th Street-Bronx Park terminal of the westside IRT lines, in operation well before the extension of the route to East 180th Street and White Plains Road. 3) Between the 167th Street and 161st Street stations on the Jerome Avenue line there are the track supports and pathway for the Ninth Avenue elevated line. 4) North of the Utica Avenue station platforms in Brooklyn is where the tunnel widens for the Utica Avenue branch of the IRT that was not built. 5) The whole Queensborough Plaza complex contains the remains of the elevated trackways and supports for the half of the station that was demolished, as well as some of the pathways for the connection to/from the Second Avenue elevated subway across the 59th Street Bridge. 6) Just south of the Rector Street station lie the tracks for the long time loop terminal of the #1 line at South Ferry. Since the opening of the current modern terminal for the #1 line, many have wondered where those tracks lead to. 7) Between the Broadway Junction station and the Sutter Avenue station of the L line in Brooklyn, lie the trackage and support columns for the Fulton Street elevated line. Just a few. Mike |
