Actually it does load in mobile Safari, but you have to request the desktop site via the AA button. I'd say the host is more at fault for serving up an error message instead of something friendlier like an explanation.

Do you have an old version of Microsoft Office? Catalina dropped support for 32 bit applications. This was expected for a long time. IIRC, Mojave had error messages to that effect, although 32 bit apps still ran.

I don’t have problems accessing YouTube via Catalina.

re: President Street stairs and headhouse of Botanic Garden (BMT) station.

Was this headhouse architecturally interesting/ significant? If so is there a photo of this anywhere? nycsubway.org for example, etc.?

I just woke up and am on my way out in about 5 minutes, so I don't have time to look for it. Any info./assistance, i.e. URL's etc. is appreciated.
Thanks.

The Historic Aerials map from 1980 appears to show a small square headhouse and staircases.

I found a 1980s tax photo showing what appears to be a boarded-up empty lot. Dunno the timeline here though.

That seems to be it, and it matches the aerial shots. One interesting thing is that in the 1981 photo, the stairs don't appear to be closed off, even though the building looks seriously dilapidated.

It's hard to say for sure, but it looks as if the stairs go to the sidewalk without entering the building.

Even though neither of the stairways actually enter the headhouse, if you look carefully yoo can see that the portion of the sidewalk at the top of the stairs is behind a fence and thus within fare controls.

But those stairs don't seem to go anywhere. I'm thinking those are very old stairs that date to when this was a railroad line, rather than a subway, and so didn't need a fare-control area. Possible? I'm also thinking the head-house in the second picture (which is on a street) isn't the same as the one in the first picture.

It may have had a full time agent years ago. I never accessed that entrance so I would guess there was an "iron maiden" there or just exit only.

Those stairs have to go somewhere or otherwise those stairways would have been fenced off and closed to the public.

Both station head houses are one in the same. This can't be Park Place or Dean St.

Geez, nobody noticed the #7 Franklin route sign ? The R 27/30's never had them. The R-11's had #7.

The R 27/30's were signed up (SS). This was a Steve Zabel sign up job. Steve was a motorman on the shuttle that weekend and he got word out to the ERA and some guys showed up with cameras such as I.

That #7 was from his collection. This was at the time the Franklin Shuttle was threatened with closure.

What I see here is the same building from opposite sides. The top picture has stairs from the platform that lead possibly to the headhouse and possibly directly to the street. These stairs head down to the north. The second photo shows stairs to track level, probably left over from the very old days, that head down to the south.

In the second picture you can see where the stairs from the platform come up but it is unclear whether they go straight out to the street or into the headhouse. The headhouse looks like it may be boarded up.

When I'm at Botanic Garden station these days I peer down towards Prospect Park and I can't even figure out where the old platform went beyond the 2 car length it is now.

According to station reporter, this station house was part-time, had a token booth, and was closed in the 1970s. Stationreporter has a lot of great stuff, and points you in the right direction, but the specifics are not always right. The closing date seems to be off based on the picture from 1981.

I searched on the Transit Museum's Past Perfect website and found this image.

The website says it was taken in July 1979. The description reads "Photograph documenting the conditions of the Botanic Gardens station of the BMT Franklin Shuttle Line for the New York City Transit Authority Maintenance of Way Division. Photograph shows graffiti and train station signage for 8th Avenue Subway.
Typewritten label on photograph reads: Botanic Gardens Station, Vandalized entrance way."

According to Interested Rider, on NYCTF, this exit to Avenue Y and Shell Road was closed in 1957, when the steel structure for it was still visible. I just looked on the Transit Museum Past Perfect website, and found pictures of it still standing in 1950. Anyone have any more information on it, or any idea why it would have been removed?

That's where I'd put my money then. The staircase was either in the way of construction or at least deemed not worthy of maintenance given that nothing all that significant for ordinary passengers would probably show up on that side of the avenue.

I'd be interested to know what you come up with. And thanks by the way as I never knew about the Ave Y staircase. Can you tell if it reached the street near the corner or was it will a bit of a walk to reach Ave Y? I can't tell based on today's Google street-view, helpful as that is.

But yeah, my suspicion is that everyone realized that with tracks going everywhere on that side of Shell Road and within that block, there wasn't going to be anything in the near future that would sprout up and justify keeping a passenger staircase there. That, and the more space available for the new construction, the better I suppose.

If you take a good look at the photos, you will notice that the ramp is well south of the tower structure south of the station and the Ave Y staircase. I haven’t been able to find any information about that ramp but AFAIK it was always there as long as the rest of the Culver structure was. What I haven’t been able to find out is of there were any tracks on that ramp or switches connected to it or if that tower was ever active or was always vacant. Does anyone out there have any accurate info about it?

I’m not sure. When I lived in Wash Hts I always hoped to get an R-16 whenever I rode the A. AFAIK, unlike the R-10s which occasionally showed up on the AA/BB the R-16s operated exclusively on the A. I had heard that when those 50 R-16s were on the IND they only had signs for the A Line and If I recall, the side route signs did not have the actual letter A but rather read “Wash Hts 8th Ave Exp” which was the reading the R-10s had. The R-16s lasted on the IND at least till the summer of 1958 since a train of them was used on the short lived “Rockaway Special" that ran during that summer. The Rockaway Special operated similarly to the Aqueduct Race Track specials but as part of the premium fare, a ride ticket to Rockaway Playland was included. The special made only one trip in the late morning on weekends between 42/8 lower and Playland station making a single stop at Hoyt. There was no return trip.

Am I imagining it, or did the conductor collect fares on board the Franklin Shuttle in the 80's? So there would be no need for fare control... Or maybe that was a different line (Dyre Ave?)? Or maybe I'm just nuts...

Dyre collected fares late PMs and midnights on board and till it closed N/O Bway/Myrtle C/Rs collected fares between Sumner and Navy St (Bridge/Jay had an agent) late PMs and Midnights. They also experimented with on board fare collection on the Midnight Rockaway Round Robin Shuttle, but it didn’t last too long because of the problems enforcing the double fare collection from passengers departing the trains in Rockaway and the need to issue paper transfers to passenger entering at Rock Pk needing to transfer to Euclid bound shuttles at Gaston.
