Posted by Bill Newkirk on Fri Dec 17 20:02:11 2021 A couple of new R-40M's enroute to NYC pause at Enola Yard in Harrisburg, PA (April 1969) New R-40M's made their splash on the (F) line seen here at Ditmas Ave. (undated photo) On the (N) Broadway Sea Beach line at 57th st & 7th Ave (April 9, 1969) On the (GG) Crosstown line at Hoyt - Schermerhorn Sts (May 15, 1969) Some made it out to the "east" seen here at Rockaway Pkwy on the (LL) Canarsie line. (June 16, 1969) #4300-01 on the (QJ) seen here at Lorimer St. (Aug 29, 1969) #4500 & #4487 were mis-mated for years until their mates could be repaired and returned to service. #4501 was invoked in the Roosevelt Ave collision in May of 1970. #4486 suffered severe damage at Sheepshead Bay in a collision with a crane. (Photo: Sept 1979) Here's #4487, #4486's mate also at Ave U. Assigned to the (D), I made the shot during a downpour at the Beverley Rd on the Brighton line. (August 1978) At West 5th St, three blocks from the West 8th St station, this broadside angle shows the abandoned lower level contrasting with the upper level still in use. Remember the Grumman 870 buses ? (October 1980) And we can where the lower and upper levels converge near the Ocean Pkwy station. (July 1978) Speaking of West 8th St, R-40M's sit beside IIRC the first set of R-68's assigned to the (D) line. (April 1986) The (KK) and later (K) was a BMT Eastern Div route that was eliminated years ago. But the (K) designation returned as an IND 8th Ave route. This was short lived and the (K) route bit the dust again. (Chamber St WTC - Dec 4,1988) The late 1980's G.O.H. extended their lives and were looking mighty good, seen here entering the Eastern Pkwy station on the (J) line. (Feb. 17, 1990) |
