I remember one time my dad was taking me out to Shea to see the Dodgers play the Mets and we had really good seats. I was excited to go but was disappointed when I started walking towards the subway and he said no, the car is this way. The game though was still fun, Koufax was pitching.It wasn't the first or only time to Shea as a kid so it wasn't too disappointing to not ride the subway that time. In fact it may have been the only time I didn't take the subway to Shea, including to see The Beatles, game 5 of the '69 series, and Joe Namath and countless Mets games using the Bordens coupons on the sides of milk containers to sit in the upper deck. We learned pretty quickly that they didn't really check to see if you had 10 coupons, you just threw them in a bin. We'd have 2 real ones and then 8 cut outs from the rest of the carton. They were more looking to get people in the stands for weekday day games. |
