When I was a kid, I originally thought that the R-40Ms were the same as the R-42s (I didn't know about contract numbers back then, so I made up my own names, so the 40Ms and the 42s were part of a class I called "A/C" (for obvious reasons, that was before I found out that the last 100 Slants also had A/C, I never rode the 10 R-38s that also supposedly had it)). But they did look very much alike. Now I know that the 40Ms had thinner striping in the blue bands than the 42s, but that was too subtle for me as a kid. |
