I didn't know that the D used 8 cars at first. I only remember it running 10 cars, post-Chrystie. Albeit, I didn't ride every day, mainly if Mom wanted to shop at Gimbels or Macy's at Herald Square (since the 6th Av and Broadway Lines meet at Herald Square, for this trip, we weren't really affected by Chrystie, still a one-seat ride (unless we rode the B47 the one stop to Empire/Flatbush (more like Washington/Flatbush, where the B47 (and B48) fumigated, then went around the block (Washington/Lincoln Rd/Flatbush/Empire) to the layover zone). Only difference was the platform. At least post-Chrystie, we wouldn't get into the situation where, during a period of missing Qs, pre-Chrystie, I attempted to show my vast knowledge of the subway system at 8 years old, and announced that we could take the N and change to the Q (or QT) at Dekalb. I think you see where this is going, we of course sailed by Dekalb and ended up at Pacific St! Not to worry, I said, we'll get the next train back to Dekalb and cross over. Well, the next train was a T, so we again sailed by Dekalb, back over the bridge and into Canal. Crossed over, and my mother said in no uncertain terms, we will board the Q and THE Q ONLY!! LOL

Didn't occure to me to take the RR back to Dekalb, but even back then, I was an expressophile. :)

Post-Chrystie, the highlight for me was getting my first subway map with all the new routes in the pretty colors. I think we had just gotten off a B41 at Empire/Flatbush, and I beg my mom to let me run down to the token booth and see if they had the new map. They did! I think I stared at it for hours :)

Loved the 60s TA logo on the cover. Before the Ronan/MTA "M" (ugh)
