Actually, there was/is sense to that much. The Low Vs had poorer acceleration than the SMEEs, and hence less time lost having them make less stops. I came to know the subway after they were gone, though, but I do remember the R17s being used on expresses and newer trains, I think the R33s, being used on the Lex Local. As for the BMT, the R27/30s came in first, and were used on the locals, having better acceleration than the pre-war cars. The Brightliners then took over where the pre-wars were still around, on the expresses.
