Indeed, I didn't see that name in use until the early 90's. The difference was necessitated by the confusion of the old and new stations on Van Wyck. I used to wonder why Jamaica-Van Wyck wasn't simply called "Jamaica Avenue", but I suppose they thought this name would confuse people into thinking they could transfer to the J here. They could have also used Metropolitan Ave.
