(You would think by now I would have responded to this thread, based on my handle).I only started using the line in the 60s, so I remember the setup at the east end of the station, where they had the ramps there, but no tracks and no switches. I sometimes wish I had the bravery (or stupidity, depending on your point of view) to have climbed down there and walked down the ramp just to see how far it went. I remember also the F trains (when they were expresses) roaring thru the station at full speed on the express tracks. I also remember the stacks of trains on the express tracks when express trains weren't in service - on the 179th st bound site for layups and also on the Manhattan bound side when they were piling up to head to Jamaica yard (forcing all Manhattan bound trains to use the local track and the F not stopping at the station. |
