I believe the downhill run from Roosevelt-Jackson, passing through 65th street was the fastest one on the system. Those R-6's would literally "scream" through that station. The only other run that I think equaled this was the 86th Street to Grand Central downhill run on the Lexington Avenue express. My father recalls riding this in the 1940's and 50's. He said they were so fast on that run that the motor sounds "disppeared." This was way before the 59th street express station opened in 10/62. |
