Even if it was, the current system works a lot better than any replacement using the RBL would.

This is one reason why it should be incorporated into the subway. It would be able to run more frequently and the study team themselves have already stated it would have higher ridership as subway. Perhaps they could even increase the figure beyond the 47K they projected if some of the southeast Queens bus routes (like the Q85 and Q111) were rerouted to the RBB at North Conduit Ave instead of crawling up Merrick or Farmers boulevards.

Something else to consider...

What if Amtrak, the owner of Penn Station, does not want to give the LIRR track slots for the RBB service, if they are short trains as a possibility, given the ridership though. If is that case, they would have to go through ESA into Grand Central, or in worse case scenario, end service at Long Island City or Hunterspoint Avenue.

In terms of the subway option, they would have go with the Queens Boulevard line, leaving from the bellmouths east of the station Woodhaven Boulevard, with supposed provisions behind the side local platforms for additional track space.

Long shots for other provisions would be the planned Super Express route via the 63rd Street Tunnel (seen east of 21st Street-Queensbridge on the Jamaica-bound track) or the Queens Boulevard Line's bellmouth east of the Roosevelt Avenue station from the 1929 plan, which had a never-used upper terminal station near the 75th Street end and the route criss-crossing through Central Queens before reaching the RBB.

Of course, if any of this happens, I doubt very much I will ever see this in my lifetime.

I just read the study.

They seem to be in denial that there is any tunneling at all, just "provisions" for it on Queens Blvd.

They also want to replace overpasses at places such as Park Lane South and Jamaica Avenue simply because they have been unused and not painted since 1962 and would not meet seismic requirements.

LI stations would have snow and ice melting technology. That's nice, but the rest and of the LIRR and subway system lack that.

Woodhaven Jct station doesn't need north end access. Why are they demanding it ? Center 600' long train over Atlantic Avenue ought to be sufficient.

The J line 104th Street station's 102nd street mezzanine needs to be put back. No mention of that, and assumed no ridership transfers would occur.

Seems to me they are trying to pile on costs to make it $6.7 to $8 billion.

No mention of the tree route structure within the embankment, and whether or not that all has to be dug out. Just description of silt, soil, morraine, ground water, and bedrock 400' down. That's what Long Island + Queens are. Why is that an issue here ?

Amtrak is not interested in where LIRR trains go and doesn't give out track slots to LIRR.

Amtrak and LIRR have a Joint Operating Agreement and LIRR own's their's, grandfathered form the 1960's, some of which are being transferred to MN in 2023 for Bronx service. As far as Amtrak is concerned, they are all MTA-LIRR trains.

CBTC will do nothing for capacity.
As it stands, the Queens Blvd subway is the only east west Fully equipped rapid transit route built specifically to be a TRUNK line with feeder options.
The 63rd St subway/Bypass route is the key to killing that conga line normally seen during the peak period.

The key to the successful utilization of the Bypass?
Eliminate the "drama stations" planned for Woodside.
Super Express means Exactly that.
Stations should be located at the Spur... and connection to the Jamaica El.

An additional lcl service along Qns Blvd would probably not be needed since the only station where service would actually be diminished would be 67 Av since all the stations up to 63 Dr would have the same 2 services and Ctl is accessible by the remaining local service and the express services stopping there.

You can see the trackway diverge on each side of Woodhaven Blvd from a RFW, so I'm pretty sure it's legit.

They would then cover over the current local track to double the width of the platform. Pretty ingenious.

Regardless of what they do with the RBB this conversion should be done anyway.

The way I always understood it, the tunnel just widens a bit on either side of the current platforms, enough for a track to go where the current platforms are. New express/local platforms would be constructed over the current local tracks and the existing local platforms would then be demolished-- no platforms get widened. I never really looked there as I passed on a local, though, as I usually am on an express when I do pass Woodhaven Blvd.

There might be a large fly in the ointment when it comes to any plans to re-activate the line - a large apartment building was erected on the right of way of the line - I think the place is called the Crescent Apartments - and unless someone comes up with a plan to get around it, there will be no reactivation of any rail service by anyone.

I guess my only issue with that theory is it makes it impossible to do with normal service levels; to demolish a platform, place a track in its place, and cover over an active running track would not be do-able in a single weekend. I would hope the IND would have had the foresight to realize knocking out an entire track during weekdays would have been a non-starter considering the ridership levels and TPH then were greater than they are now...

There is going to be one big yell let out by the residents of that building should they become aware of any planned re-activation of that line. How the builders placed that parking lot there and not caught any flack for it is a conundrum. We will just have to wait and see what develops.

There is a mezzanine at Woodhaven Blvd. - I would like to see that station become an express stop, what with the mall right upstairs from the station. With increased bus service on Woodhaven, what would be a long term plan for that road - automobiles regularly clog the lanes, and getting from Queens Blvd. to Rockaway Blvd. and points south of there are difficult for those without cars ( hint, hint ).

I figure that extending the G would give back the service that the riders lost when it was truncated, in addition to adding to Queens Blvd. Also, since I proposed that the M would be the one going to the Rockaways, though it will probably remain a part-time service, I would have the G fill in the Rockaway service when the M isn't running.

There is a large Mezz above the tracks/platforms.
This station can definitely can be rebuilt as an Express stop with little effort since it is completely within Queens Blvd right of way.

For all we know, there might be trackways behind those walls already.
The IND planned for branch lines from this route in the vicinity, so that makes sense.
