Is there a demonstrated high demand for such access? Not everyone can have a one-seat ride to everywhere the subway goes. The subway is not Uber or Lyft. We can’t expect the subway to beat Uber/Lyft by trying to BE Uber/Lyft. |

G trains will be carrying mostly air if the G returns to Queens Blvd. And you’d still have the issue of turning trains from two lines at 71st-Continental. At least if one of the current local services is rerouted to Rockaway, you’d only have to turn the other local at 71st. |

Even after so called “unification” the new “divisions” of the NYCTS operate pretty much the way the did under private operation. When the IRT R types started arriving in 1948, they retained the IRT style cab door and door control keys as used on the Hi-Vs and Lo-Vs instead of the IND type universal door key which eventually ended up being used starting with the R-62s. Also, when the tracks were realigned N/O Westchester Sq and upgraded signaling was installed on the IRT West Farms Line, the signals continued to display the IRT style aspects instead of the IND aspects until the late 1950s. |

Even as late as the 1990s, some IRT lines used railroad style home signals instead of IND/BMT signals. I remember at 149 St/CC southbound #5's got red over green instead of green over yellow (which they did get at 125 St). I guess it kept the T.O.'s alert! |

The signals at 149 are among the ones I was talking about. AFAIK, when the West Farms spur was torn down circa 1952, the entire line from 149 St to 241 St was upgraded with IND style signals capable of automatic key by as opposed to the old brass key manual type. Despite that the “new” signals continued to display IRT style aspects. |

They also want to replace overpasses at places such as Park Lane South and Jamaica Avenue simply because they have been unused and not painted since 1962 and would not meet seismic requirements.You never know what condition those overpasses are. They haven't been maintained since before 1962. |

They need testing, but I would not automatically declare them all junk until then. It is not like they have deteriorated from trains rolling over them like the viaducts at Valley Stream, Lynbrook, and Rockville Center having crumbled apart over the last 35 years needing major repairs, though the trees growing on RBB ones them with their steady weight has to have an impact. |
