Even after so called “unification” the new “divisions” of the NYCTS operate pretty much the way the did under private operation. When the IRT R types started arriving in 1948, they retained the IRT style cab door and door control keys as used on the Hi-Vs and Lo-Vs instead of the IND type universal door key which eventually ended up being used starting with the R-62s. Also, when the tracks were realigned N/O Westchester Sq and upgraded signaling was installed on the IRT West Farms Line, the signals continued to display the IRT style aspects instead of the IND aspects until the late 1950s. |
