Interesting. Unfortunately, what's more likely to have happened would have been abandonment of the shuttle and the connection never being built.

There should be another connection to the complex that avoids the bridge, yet can access downtown Manhattan.

perhaps its time to through route PART of the Houston st line to Nassau st..

What I would do is rebuild the Shuttle line back to two tracks and at least 480' platforms with the idea of making it into a through line with a new connection that would connect it to the existing Myrtle Avenue line (including a rebuilt upper level of Myrtle Avenue) that can be a new Myrtle-Brighton line running 24/7 as a local to Coney Island along Prospect Park, absorbing both the Franklin Avenue Shuttle AND the weekend (M) shuttle between Myrtle and Metropolitan Avenue. This would also have connections at Myrtle to the Broadway Brooklyn Line that in an emergency like the one we just had could have allowed (with 60 foot cars only) the (B) to run via the Willy B and the Broadway Line to reach this new line and vice versa to the 6th Avenue line with the (M).

The new line (that as mentioned previously on this I would designate as a "Black V" would have two new stations besides a rebuilt upper level of Myrtle Avenue: A rebuilt Sumner Avenue station from the old Myrtle El and most likely one with a transfer to the (G) at Bedford-Nostrand. This would be a local 24/7 to Coney Island with the (B) serving as a second local to Coney Island on weekdays and the (Q) becoming the full-time Brighton Express (24/7).

OK, except that I would use the designation "M:" as the Myrtle/Brighton service and call the Myrtle/6 Av service the "V." While it does sound like a good idea, however, would there be a sufficient demand for such a service which does does not go to either Manhattan or the downtown Bkln CBD?

Divert the passengers not the trains. For the D, N or R, take F to 4th Avenue. For the B or Q take either the F or the 2/5 and walk home or take the C to Franklin and the shuttle to the B or Q.

There would have be even more flexibility if the Transit Authority had temporary MetroCard transfers throughout the affected lines and in Downtown Manhattan so that transfers could be made anywhere. There really isn't any need for block passes anymore. Just reprogram the turnstiles temporarily.

The idea is the line absorbs the Franklin shuttle and also the weekend (M) shuttle while at the same time having numerous transfer points between lines going to Manhattan (plus the (G) in Brooklyn). Current (M) riders for instance could take the new line to Botanic Garden and use that to transfer to the 2/3/4/5, which right now would not be possible as an example.

I suspect this new line would be surprisingly very popular, especially during the summer when riders in Queens can use it to get to Coney Island without going through Manhattan.

I doubt that a reprogramming of the turnstiles can be done as quickly as you would have liked. As for changing from the F at 4 Av, the switches at Pacific St don't allow for a S/B train coming off the relay to access the lcl tk so in all likelihood, even if N/B trains turning at Pacific St could make lcl stops N/B, they would have to run express S/B.

I doubt that there would be much of a demand for another line besides the G that doesn't enter Manhattan. At least the G gets to the Bkln CBD area at the Fulton St statin which is close to Atlantic Yds and Hoyt which is sufficiently close to Fulton Mall and other downtown Bkln places of business. The Fkln/Myrtle wouldn't even get passengers to Bkln's CBD.

"Bedford Ave would be the most opportune avenue for either a El or subway routing."

TunnelRat says that there is a tunnel which was built by the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company that is below the Crosstown G Line west of directly below this station. This tunnel was obviously built before the Crosstown Line. It supposed to be a 2 track subway tunnel and elevated line that was built in anticipation for a BRT Crosstown El/Subway. I don't think this exists though.

The line was supposed to connect to the Franklin Avenue – Fulton Street station on the BMT Franklin Avenue Line to the Queensboro Plaza station in Queens. The built-but-never-used tunnel runs for about 600 feet and has 2 trackways.

Here's proff:

Correct..something must be done about the DeKalb junction...like a bypass line built around it...perhaps along Atlantic avenue to Flatbush avenue..from a new east river tunnel..with enough capacity to carry Broadway, 2ND,6TH and 8th avenue trains..with connections to the Fulton,4th,Brighton and a new service via the Atlantic line to Jamaica.

True, but in this case, this line only adds two new stations to otherwise existing lines (one of them a re-build from the old Myrtle El) and would be absorbing one full-time line (Franklin shuttle) and one other shuttle line that runs nights and weekends ((M) between Myrtle and Metropolitan) and also reinstates the original purpose of how the lines are supposed to work when there are four tracks: The full-time express line (on the Brighton, in this scenario the (Q)) runs to Manhattan while the full-time local line (in this case, the "Black V" as I call it) running within Brooklyn and Queens (the (B) in this scenario becomes a second weekday local on the Brighton to Coney Island).

The main feature of this line would be the numerous lines there would be transfers to/from, plus the flexibility when necessary (via a connection to the Broadway Brooklyn line) of having the (B) for example (if using 60-foot cars) being able to get to the Brighton line from the Broadway-Brooklyn line and if warranted also being able to have a line operate to/from the Brighton line from the Nassau Street line without going through the Montauge Tunnel.

Exactly!!

That's what I would be looking at myself.

Obviously, you would need to find a new location for the Transit Museum if you went that route since the current TM station would become a through station for a Brooklyn branch of the SAS, but perhaps the abandoned portion of the Bowery station for instance could be a potential spot for a relocated TM if the current TM location were converted for a Brooklyn branch of the SAS.

Such down the road could also serve as the local on Fulton Street in Brooklyn at all times to either Lefferts or Far Rockaway and give those riders east side access via a one-seat ride they currently don't have (the T in this scenario would need to be a local mainly so it can stop at Lafayette Avenue, the closest station to the Atlantic Terminal on Fulton Street branch).

That all said, I also still like the idea of the T eventually going to Brooklyn via Nassau Street, re-activating the abandoned tracks north of Chambers on the Nassau Street line and setting it up so the T comes in on the "express" tracks at Canal Street and uses those to connect to/from the SAS, merging with the J south of Canal for Brooklyn.
