Over at the "Second Avenue Sagas" blog, there's been more talk about wiring the subways for cell phone service.

I truly hope this never happens. Its bad enough I have to hear every bubble-headed LI yenta and gum-snapping teen yakking about absolute nonsense every day on the LIRR, or some poor schlub ordering Chinese food for pickup when he reaches his station. And these people talk LOUD - like they're in their living room.

Case in point: I was once riding to Flatbush Avenue when some yenta got on the phone to some other yenta about some third yenta's new kitchen. In a regular conversational voice, she went on and on about the fixtures, the wallpaper, how great it looked and how she can't wait to visit her friend again so she can see it again. While she was going on about it, a man in the rear of the car piped up and said "hey, that sounds really great! Can we all come see it too?"

There are too many people who abuse the privilege of talking on cell phones. Like many people, to me the subways are a respite from the endless nonsense yakking that goes on. I vote NO on subway cell
service.

What's your opinion? Like Richard N. Hughes, former President of the WPIX Channel 11 news division in the '70s, we'd like to know.
