Re: Moving the (R) to Nassau Street permanently

The idea (again!) is this would be doing something some pols had been screaming for given the poor service of the (R), especially in Brooklyn:

Splitting the (R) into two lines with the (W) becoming full-time and replacing the (R) on Broadway.

As noted, SOME (W) trains, especially during peak hours when Whitehall CAN'T turn all of the (W) trains that would be running would continue to Brooklyn, either to 9th Street or Bay Parkway on the (D) (and further if necessary, during rush hours (W) trains to/from Bay Parkway can run express in the reverse peak direction along the West End). This would give Bay Ridge riders a same platform transfer anywhere between 36th and Court Street for those who need lower Manhattan on the Broadway Line (and even then, this Nassau (R) would be making stops in most cases no more than 2-3 blocks from the Broadway Line stations, plus at Fulton you can walk underground to reach the World Trade Center).

Yes, I'm aware of this (R) being 480 feet instead of 600 feet, though I believe you can actually run nine-car, 540' trains with a narrow fit as it is on most of the Nassau Line (and when needed, Broadway-Brooklyn) stations other than Metropolitan Avenue used to handle eight-car trains of 67-foot Standards that made for 536 feet. Nights and weekends all (R) trains that are going to Metropolitan in this would have to be 480' but weekdays and in peak hours when running to Canal or Broadway Junction they could be 540' or nine cars.
