And the 7 extension made economic sense.

The 7 extension was a colossal waste of money because rail service could have been provided for 10% of the cost.

A station could have been built within the rail yard before it was covered over. This would have been relatively cheap, about $100 million. Service would have been provided by an LIRR shuttle between this station and rarely used track 21 in Penn Sta. Fare collection would be by Metrocard at the rail yard station. There would be fare collection for entering and leaving like SIRT at St. George.
