My point is that many, many horrific crimes don't get reported nationwide.Horrific crimes are pretty depressing news. They don't sell newspapers (or their electronic equivalent) nationally unless there's an unusual twist. Typically the twist is that the victim is really rich or the accused is middle class (Amanda Knox, the Duke case). The victims being middle class usually doesn't qualify as a sufficiently interesting twist. |

Out here, E911 operators are employees of the sheriff's department. They're fully trained and have books full of procedures. In non-emergency medical situations such as childbirth or trying to stabilize a patient before the meat wagon rolls, they often dispense medical advice and often close the case over the phone.When dispatch anywhere tells you that "we don't want you to do that" and you continue to do that, you're getting cuffed also. Yes, I was on the platform at the Million Hoodies Rally yesterday in Union Square, with Martin's parents and other supporters. It would be more similar to what's happening in Sanford if had instead decided to let the murderer go free. Luch doesn't understand that it's not the murder that has people upset, it's that they decided not to prosecute him. This wasn't a story when it happened outside of Florida. It only became one when the police went so long without charging Zimmermann. |

I didn't realize that he had a rap sheet, but regardless police record what they see and there's nothing official about it. Half Hispanic is tricky though as they are sometimes considered Hispanic and other times "white" (Jessica Alba for example). But as "white" is really "non-Hispanic white", it's hard to consider him non-Hispanic if he really is half. |
