Many are better than bread, but some aren't. White bread is bad. Wheat options are better. That's also the case for wraps too. |

I can't say what's healthier, but I'm a bread man myself. But there's also other options for the diverse multicultural people. There's the falefel sandwiches which come in a pita. Then very popular in all of the border communities from the border to Chicago and Seattle, the Tortilla. Some places you can hardly find bread, they make this all day and night. People go crazy for things called breakfast tacos, but I never had one. So really, there's a 4 way discussion that should be had to comply with all federal Title IX rules. |

I love bread, but have been trying to get back to my 2001 weight. I'm a few lbs off. Of goal I was always lucky....great metabolism. But, as you get older, catches up with you.I cut out a lot of sugar because diabetes in family. I lost 25 lbs since March, and it's all been portion control.. basically weight watchers sort of thing thinking points....eat what you want, but moderation.. skipping red meat for chicken and fish, etc. But still have steak once in a while. Low calorie wraps instead of bread, etc. Never was a sweets person. |

After loosing the 25 lbs, I'm already within normal range for where a 6 foot male should be, which is 185-220. I was 220, the highest I ever was in February, which spurred me to start really watching. I tried a low carb diet about 2 years ago, but I saw that as unhealthy. Skip fruits and veggies and eat all the bacon, fat and cheese you want?So I am doing a less stringent weight watchers style eating , portion control, counting points, etc. I was never a bad eater....didn't eat much sweets, and always loved vegetables, but when I ate so.wthing I liked, I went for seconds and thirds,. Now eat smaller portions, eat more vegetables, go for the fish or chicken at restaurants, etc. Still have beef once a week or so though, couldn't cut it out completely, but it's been working for me. And yes, cut out all sugar drinks, including juices. But that was because my doctor said I was borderline diabetic. But between eating better, and losing the 25+ lbs, that should be better now too. I never was a desserts person. Have sweets once a week or two, that's really it. |

Ketogenic/LCHF(Low carb high fat) Low carb would be about 50 grams or less of carbs a day. I do 120-150 grams because of a sweet potato and 1 piece of fruit. I'm moderate carb. Still have beef once a week or so though, couldn't cut it out completely, but it's been working for me Good. You should eat beef once a week. And the grass-fed is even better. Butter is also good. |

I won't use butter substitutes or margarine. I like red meat, and pork. It's just so much higher points than the chicken or fish. So keep it to once a week or so. I used to eat a lot more of it.Also, have more smaller make. Instead of a bacon, egg and cheese, dripping with butter on a roll for breakfast, I will have plain instant oatmeal. Or instead of skipping lunch, and having a huge dinner, will make a chicken roll cold cut with one slice and f cheese on low calorie wrap for lunch....mustard instead of mayo. I couldn't believe how many y points a slice of cheese is. I used to pile on four or five slices, and eat some while making the sandwich. Would eat 3/4 of my now days points, just eating too many slices of cheese, or fill in a blank. I think k more about what I am eating, and how much. That's all I really have been doing, and it's worked great. I do still eat everything I love to eat, just less often and a lot less . And yes, grass fed is great. Have a friend upstate with a cow farm, and get fresh beef and pork from him when I go up there. Nothing like it. |

Also dark chocolate(85%) and 2oz. of almonds or macadamia nuts daily. Those are good sources of fat and protein. Eat one potato a day for carbs. |

I do have that if I do eat a dessert or sweet snack. Don't Care for milk chocolate. I like bitter and sour tastes, never cared for sweet.I eat potatoes. What I have been doing is eating let's say a baked potatoes instead of fries. Cut out a lot of fried things. I like bacon, just eat less in a sitting. Again, moderation. I still have been eating what I like, just less. The only thing I really have been trying to cut out is fried stuff when I can. |

If you cook and cool potatoes they form "resistant starch", and you won't metabolize the potatoes as glucose but as fiber. Good for gut bacteria. |

Theres such a variety of both tortillas and sliced bread that you can't really say one is across the board lower carb than the other. But probably the healthiest tortilla will contain less carbs than the healthiest bread, just in terms of volumeI think if you're really trying to lower your carbs then you probably want to steer clear of sandwiches. |

Add a dollop, about half a taspoon per tablespoon of oil to use for frying......especially good for breakfast, as it reduces fats while keeping the butter flavor desired for breakfast foods.Lost 30 points on cholesterol by doing this. |
