As I said, I'm not brushing up on it because it wouldn't matter— Gamera is an extremist who can't even understand my arguments and isn't mature enough to try (as evidenced by the fact that he posted an article with a smug declaration that I'd ignore it and when I offered a well-argued reply, he responded with a meaningless insult) and it's not like I've had any practical need to speak it.

You have yet to explain why it looks "foolish" to speak an arbitrary foreign language less than perfectly. If you can't think up a reason, I'm happy to call up a few of my friends and/or relatives so we can see how well you speak Icelandic.
