Gaza had the chance to put itself on a path to economic prosperity starting in 2005 when Israel withdrew all its soldiers and citizens from the territory.

This again? Israel never withdrew from Gaza. They never ended the blockade. At no point were Gazans ever allowed to leave freely nor import necessary supplies.

Hamas took it over.

Hamas was the only group providing vital services to a population being kept in poverty. You can hardly blame them for accepting.

Since then, Gaza "defends itself" by shooting rockets indiscriminately at civilian population centers in Israel, which is a WAR CRIME.

And it is, of course, a war crime when Israel does it as well.

Israel has no plans to resettle the Gaza Strip.

Well yes, the rockets do tend to discourage that.

If Gaza unilaterally disarmed without a peace agreement with Israel, they'd be all over it like Americans.

Israel is NOT the aggressor and would like very much to live in peace with its Arab neighbors.

Yes, which is why they kept Gaza deliberately impoverished. You know, there's more to peace than simple absence of violence. Presence of justice and all that.

If you truly oppose all wars, as you claim, you would side with those promoting peace, not those promoting war, violence, and bloodshed.

What, Israel is starting a war for peace?

Come on, you're a lot more reasonable than Chimmy or Gamera. You must know how ridiculous it sounds to say that someone is "promoting peace" with war.

Since neither side is "promoting peace," someone who truly opposes wars like me has to "side" with a third party. At the moment, I'm hoping Canada will step up to try and mediate because no one can accuse Canada of being biased, but looking towards the European Union is probably a better bet.
