These changes seem much more extensive than the changes proposed in other boroughs, don't they?

Renumerbering everything. There will be mass confusion.

Q10 looks to be extended further north beyond Union Tpke station, though I never heard of "Electchester".

Q35 goes via Rockaway Beach Blvd. The MTA just hates Neptune Av.

Electchester is a 2500 unit coop apartment development, QM4/44 have used it as origin/destination.....

The proposed elimination of 3 stops for the Electchester and Pomonok developments between 164th and Kissena will not happen, those are extremely busy stops on long hills, perhaps leaving Parsons in the middle, but all 3, every local elected official will work to block.

Although to be fair, if there was no QM4/44 and if I didn't pay attention to destination signs, I to this day would probably never have known that there was any such thing as Electchester (and I lived in Queens for about 10 years).

They are also, it seems, making another attempt to break up (most) Little Neck Pkwy service. At the same time, that road's extreme north would get direct subway (and Forest Hills, which is something like a CBD) service, and it may be a net win.

At the same time, I have routinely noticed people waiting for the Q36 when it's running at sites like Union Tpke and Hillside Ave.

The ENY - Cedarhurst route is interesting, but always low frequency.

Mixed feelings about leaving Cross Bay / Woodhaven SBS with only the Q52. I suppose not having to go to Woodside can make this corridor more dependable. But it also means, on the current plan, no direct transfer to a bus of that corridor from the Q35, which I think is a big mistake. The Q35 should then at least go to B 94th St if they won't operate a Rockaway Park branch of the SBS.

From a broad perspective, the planners seem to have decided to ignore many established service patterns, and have connected neighborhoods that really have no substantial relationship to one another. In other words, planners running amok, drawing lines on maps, without truly understanding the demographics of the communities affected. In other words, these are fantasy transit routes.

Now some ideas are good. For example, having the Flushing-Ridgewood route (Q58) using the Horace Harding service roads, instead of poking along on Corona Avenue, speeds up the journey for many who travel to and Flushing. But other ideas are bad, such as creating routes that require transfers to reach Flushing, and other routes that are "L" shaped or circular. And cutting the Q60 from Manhattan, and sending it to a ferry terminal that no one wants? Social engineering at its worst!

Despite a few good ideas, this plan seems to be mostly a failure. It was busy work for recently-graduated service planners, who designed according to their academic theories, and ignoring the needs of people who rely on buses in Queens to get around. I foresee an outroar.

The Rockaway Turnpike bus appears goes to neither Far Rockaway nor Jamaica, but ENY and only to Cedarhurst.

Planners seem to be playing connect-the-dots, but not paying attention to any travel patterns. Jamaica is destination. I suppose they think the N31 will suffice for Mott Ave subway station, but that is not MTA's bus.

"In other words, planners running amok, drawing lines on maps, without truly understanding the demographics of the communities affected. In other words, these are fantasy transit routes." George Costanza logic.
I had to double check that this came from the MTA site rather than some bus fan's idea.

Little Neck LIRR Sta. to Forest Hills current Q23 Union Tpke. terminal, way too long.
Combining the Q10 with the Q64, don't like this idea. Q10 is a subway feeder for South Queens. The Q64 is a subway feeder for Electchester, could have extended the Q64 further east.
QT3 a Q54 limited.

Express buses from Queens with stops in Brooklyn, then via the Williamsburg Bridge to Manhattan. Beyond stupid.

Metropolitan Avenue is the route that Glenridge Coach Co. operated, when it was providing express service between Glendale-Ridgewood and Manhattan, prior to Triboro Coach initiating its own QM24 service.

I like the fact we are getting more Queens to Manhattan local routes.

But as a quick example, as currently set up the B57 is very undependable due to traffic conditions. Having it go farther will make it even more undependable. I hope transit gives these routes sufficient running time. Ha Ha.

Finally, I am curious about eventual depot assignments and how MTA bus plays into this.

It's completely eliminated.

Lots of express bus cuts. BM5 and QM4 off peak service is cut. QM2 and QM15 service is being reduced during off peak hours. The QM5 and QM6 off peak service is being replaced by the QM1 (so no express bus service east of 188th Street on either route). Those folks are going to be livid.

And the irony is that, with all MTABC reimbursable 100 percent by the city, none of these service reductions will actually save any money for the MTA. Perhaps it is not the MTA but the city, behind the curtain, pulling the strings on this plan?

If so, expect another Cuomo/DeBlasio Holy War.

The only logic I can see for the Q114 is they regard it solely as a subway feeder to either Mott Av or Jamaica. So they truncate back to Cedarhurst. leave south of there to NICE (no Sunday N31 service, never was), dump everybody at the ENY subway complex, and let the passengers sort themselves out. But nobody wants to go to ENY per se, it is not a safe area, though Jamaica is a destination of itself.

There is a Jamaica - Far Rockaway service. I am totally confused between this map and the list I saw elsewhere.

West of Rockaway Park subway, the Q22 and Q35 swap, and the Q22 seems to go a few block west of it.

The QM3 is dropped, so I am looking into picking it up. It is one of those routes that I believe has been deliberately neglected all of its life to protect the LIRR.

It is simple. Off-peak, you offer a reduced fare so that all of the costs do not have to be loaded on the rush hour buses. Otherwise, all of the expresses look bad.

The route extensions are predicted on making buses stop every 4-6 blocks. If that is not achieved, the entire plan does not work.

I see now. The Q114 would be rerouted onto Nassau Expressway. That still does not people along Rockaway Tpke, Mott Av, and Wanser Ave in Lawrence and Inwood get them to Jamaica, which is the ability they have had since it was Jamaica Railways trolley car.

As a sidebar, the subtle message I'm getting from the easternmost aspects of this redesign is that NYCT/MTAB want to serve Nassau more (Lakeville Road between Union Tpke and Hillside - should be interesting to see if there are any stops on that stretch as the n26 does not make any currently), N Shore Hospital, and, as we are discussing in this subthread, some of the towns north/east of Far Rockaway.

Extending the B57 and cutting the Smith Court part of the route will mostly likely mean there will be no bus service on those streets when the Brooklyn plan is released with the justification that it duplicates the F and has low ridership. The ridership is low because they decimated the service there.

Though I haven’t reviewed the plan yet in detail, I suspect your assessment is correct. I just hope passengers don’t just sit back and accept the changes they do not like without speaking up.

Where are the criteria to determine if this plan is successful after initiation? You can’t just cherry pick a few facts and declare success as the MTA did in Staten Island.

I guess they feel that if a one-seat ride to Jamaica is so important, those people can take the LIRR and pay the extra fare. My first thought was that the QT22 & QT62 should both end at the Far Rockaway A train station, but I guess they figured that they might as well give the QT22 some unique coverage away from the A train, and there's no point in the QT62 connecting to the A train at both ends. I agree, it does make it harder to get to Jamaica by bus, though, since people on the southern end have to backtrack to Far Rockaway (since the QT22 doesn't connect with the QT13 at its eastern terminal)

Lawrence and Inwood folks now taking the bus are not exactly of the wealthy class of the other side of the tracks at Lawrence and of Hewlett thru Cedarhurst. They are not going to take the LIRR. The MTA seems to want to dump them at ENY, unsafe and lacking of amenities as it is, and they can sort themselves out onto the A, J, and L trains.

Also notice the Jamaica - North Woodmere bus no longer heads down Mill Road into Hewlett and down Peninsula Blvd. It only ran 2 or 3 times a day since when it was Jamaica Bus lines. I don't know when that went away.

The 2010 Walder cuts were pretty light on MTA-BC, but heavy handed on TA routes. The focus was on MTA's deficits, which BC and NYC had no part of.

Now they are using this as a tool to prune city subsidized, MTA-BC, while De Blasio leaves in place his stupid NYC ferries with 10% farebox recovery.

They can get off the Q7 at Rockaway Blvd & Liberty Avenue and catch the A there. There's nothing remotely wrong with that station or neighborhood.

The new Q22 (QT22) has a stub end terminal at Rockaway Turnpike & Burnside Avenue, and will no longer serve Saint John's hospital, or any of those dense apartment complexes off of Seagirt Boulevard. Redfern Houses lost their bus stop. Lastly, the QT22 will now stop running at around 10:30PM instead of 1AM like it does presently.

The new Q113 (QT13) runs nonstop between Hillside Avenue and Linden Boulevard, essentially skipping the entire Jamaica Avenue CBD, and requires backtracking to transfer to if you're trying to travel between the Inwood area and points north.

They're forcing the Q52 down people's throats even though the Q53 has a direction connection to the Queens Boulevard Express Subway lines, is more popular with beachgoers in the summer and riders in general, and serves the side of the Rockaways that has no regular direct subway service into Manhattan.

They didn't even attempt to study the potential feasibility of any new direct connections from the Rockaway Peninsula to Green Acres Mall or the Brighton subway line, both of which I'm sure could attract decent ridership.

There is no way the Rockaway Peninsula will let these changes fly.

I think DeBlasio's DOT is the driving force of this and its elitism. I'm a Dem, but I can also call a spade a spade.

He's give them NYC Ferry to shut them up about the Q22 truncations and fucking over Newport Avenue by proposed Q35 reroute. They don't give a shit about a hospital in Far Rockaway.

The Q53 is the traditional Woodhaven Blvd Limited stop service. I believe its branch in the Rockaways is much better patronized than the Q52, which is the new kid on the block, which is counter-intuitive with A & S("H") service.

I feel like this draft was conjured up by people who were determined to make the system more grid-like, which makes sense in a low-density and car-friendly area like Queens, but lost sight of travel patterns and area demographics somewhere along the way.

Why are they trying to shove the Hunters Point Ferry down our throats? I doubt that the residents of Sunnyside headed towards Manhattan are going to favor this QT60 (new Q60) to the ferry over the 7 train or QT61/QT75.

They rerouted the QT80 (new Q18) away from residential Maspeth to better serve... 3 cemeteries?

Much of Glendale lost their subway connection to the Myrtle Avenue line, forcing riders to choose the Queens Boulevard line instead. Is it wise to funnel more riders onto a subway line that is supposedly beyond maxed out in capacity as it is?

They are really getting rid of Queens Plaza as a bus terminal, but I have no complaints, I always thought that it was over served anyways.

The QT6 (new Q58 Limited) does this weird diversion to Grand Avenue subway station between Queens Center and Maspeth, why? I am loving how the QT58 (new Q58 Local) serves Roosevelt Avenue instead taking the circuitous route through College Point Boulevard however.

The QT7 along Linden Boulevard only stops at Lefferts Boulevard between Sutphin Boulevard and Woodhaven Boulevard, who is this route for? Do they really think that the residents of Cambria Heights/St. Albans headed towards Manhattan are going to choose the slower A train over the E train?

The QT20 (new Q6) is brilliant and what I was hoping these changes would do to that route, but why does it shun the terminal area in favor of serving... Lefferts Boulevard Airtrain?

243rd Street in Rosedale is a busy commercial strip and important ridership generator for the Q85 (now QT43), and they're removing service from that strip, forcing passengers to cross the far from pedestrian friendly Conduit Avenue to catch their bus now?

Most Q65 riders on 164th Street are going to Flushing, this new QT65 completely disregards that in favor of taking a more linear route to Beechhurst. How many people in Beechhurst are really trying to get to Electchester and vice versa?

The QT33 (new Q75) is brilliant and exactly what I thought should have been done to the old Q75, although I wish this new QT33 also connected to the E, J, and Z trains.

The QT55 (new Q55) to Jamaica is also brilliant, and something that I have proposed on here numerous times to less than favorable reception, glad the MTA didn't listen to you guys on this one lol.

Why does the QT41 (new Q84) stub at Francis Lewis Boulevard? Am I really supposed to think that more 120th Avenue passengers east of Francis Lewis Boulevard would prefer a direct bus to Cunningham Park over Jamaica? The QT73 should also be extended to Rosedale LIRR or Green Acres for additional coverage.

Regarding the QT47 (new Q9), how are South Ozone Park airport employees supposed to reach the airport without having to ridiculously backtrack?

The QT50 (new Q50) is going to be brutal for drivers. A loop route from Co-op City to LaGuardia Airport via the Whitestone Bridge, Citifield, and Downtown Flushing then back to Co-op City?

Why does Roosevelt Avenue still have no bus service between 74th Street and 108th Street?

The QT71 (new Q27/Q77) should go over the Throgs Neck Bridge to Parkchester. I also think that there should be a branch to Rochdale Village on the southern end.

Not a big deal, but I thought that the Williamsburg waterfront area brought a decent chunk of ridership to the Q59, so I am a little surprised that they're getting rid of it. The Q59 will also lose its connection to the G train as a result of this, although admittedly it's a transfer few take advantage of.

The QT63 (new Q104) should abandon that stub end terminal at 11th Street in favor of an extension to Roosevelt Island. I am pretty sure that Roosevelt Island would appreciate the new connection to the Steinway Street shopping district.

Who is going to take the QT64 (new Q31) north of St. Johns? And it's going to run 24/7? This route is destined for failure. Maybe it should diverge to serve Auburndale LIRR to give it somewhat of a ridership generator on its northern end.

If there is a route that should go to the Hunters Point Ferry it should be the QT66, but they're stubbing it at Broadway. It won't even serve the shopping center at 48th Street anymore, why?

If they're going for a grid system, shouldn't the QT67 (new Q112) go to Crescent Street via Liberty and not the QT62? I am loving how they finally streamlined Jericho Turnpike service on the eastern end however.

Why are they swapping the Q83 (now QT39) and Q3 (now QT68) north of Liberty Avenue? There is nothing wrong with the current arrangement. Lots of airport workers in Hollis use the Q3.

The new QT75 is brilliant, I know Sunnyside is going to love this route. I still think that there should be a dedicated 48th Street route between Rikers Island and Ridgewood however.

For all of the routes that they're rerouting to ferry terminals, one of the most obvious candidates, the QT76 (new Q101) is stubbed at 21st Street and Ditmars Boulevard instead of heading all the way down to the Astoria Ferry Terminal. I would at least have it detour to serve the Ditmars Boulevard station so that northwestern Astoria would now have a direct bus to the N and W trains there.

The QT79 (new Q102) is brilliant, a perfect route, I can see this one being a success over time.

Why are they stubbing the QT83 (new Q11) at 157th Avenue? At least send it down to 164th Avenue so it can serve the commercial district down there.

This QT84 (new Q20A/Q25) is going to be DOA, no way this route has a chance as is.

In regards to the QT85 (new Q28), I thought Crocheron Avenue was a huge ridership generator for the Q28? I also thought that many Q28 riders are traveling between Northern Boulevard and points east, I can't see this one going over too well.

The Q74 lives through the new QT86, I actually like this route too, crazy enough to work. Atlas Park's management will love this.

I'm loving the new QT87, this one will be another instant hit. I would create a branch to Queensborough Community College a la the Q30 as well.

No way Lindenwood is going to accept the service cut that is the QT88 with open arms, this route will change soon enough.

It wouldn't help the bus network as much as rerouting the Rockaway Boulevard route would. It's partly about connecting Green Acres to South Ozone Park, but mostly about improving the bus network.

This draft is more about testing the waters to see how much they can get away with. Remember how they wanted to essentially cannibalize bus service to Co-op City just to end up adding a new route to serve it in the end (Bx25)?

Knowing the MTA, Newport Avenue service is unfortunately chopped liver at this point even though it is more centrally located and convenient for area residents. I wouldn't quite yet give up hope on retaining the Q53 or service along Seagirt Boulevard however.

Just noticed the non-stop segment of the QT32 (Q46) along Union Tpke. Nothing between 188th and Parsons, clearly meant to avoid St. John's.

In terms of Manhattan access, I get it -- keep Utopia and SJU to the shorter route (QT11). But do they really think nobody from the east wants to get off anywhere between 188th and Parsons? Maybe if every second or third run did the non-stop thing it would be ok. And definitely overnight, it should be all local. (The Glen Oaks via 260th St service has been removed).
