A route that requires 15 minute rush hour service must also be busy enough to merit at least hourly service on Sundays.

that can't be done cuz there isn't a comapny that would have enough buses or man power to do that. and someroads are total gridlock during rush hour, adding more buses although is a good idea, prob wouldn't work unless u had enough buses which the county doesn't have.

no, but i'm a pratical person. i know what can and can't be down, and that throwing more buses won't fix a problem. do i Honestly think that suffolk transit is fine the way it is right now, yes. do i Honestly think that there are curtain things that need to be changed, yes. but do i Honestly think that what everyone here preaches, they need more buses on curtain routes, No!. what needs to be done first is getting a budget that is stable, which suffolk DOES NOT have right now. then u have to fix some roads like RT 112, that backs up for miles at rush hour and u only move like a inch an hour.

but the county doesn't hire the drivers. so how are the county surpose to get the drivers, veterans or new ones to come in on sundays, be away for their famlies for four to five hours, just so they can drive a bus that may not have passengers that day, just so they can be like everyone else and have sunday service that ur not even totally sure no one would use. and add more money that u don't have to a budget that doesn't have room for it. and u also for got about the dispatchers and mantince personal that would have to work too. you just can't go from not having sunday service to having it.

everyone is missing the point, since 1998 Suffolk Transit came a long way. in 1998 the S40 didn't run as late as it does now, the same with the S45. they made two routes (S71 and S76), because the need was there. they also extened routes because need is there. Sunday service is a good idea, but unless there is a total need, and i mean from almost everyone who takes Suffolk Transit, not from people on a board that feels that Suffolk Transit needs to keep with the times are because other Transit ops do it. i never heard a need for it. and why are u calling for Sunday service when there are a few routes that don't have Saturday service, or routes like the S61 that has buses taken off on saturdays???????

but i think what this is all about is because back in July they had bus drivers record the number of people that got on the bus during a run. i don't think it has anything to do with Sunday bus service, or Metro cards. what prob will be discussed is bus route expansions or adding extra buses to the S92 or other routes.

i never said that it shouldn't be done, just that it can't now. maybe if/when the 55 bio diesel buses come and if they like the 4 hybrid/eletric buses and order more, then maybe as long as the keep the 1999 orions, it could be done. u can't put every bus u have on the street (even though everyone thinks u can) because in the event of a break down, u wouldn't have any buses to replace the one u lost. and there is the money side, u can't do anything without making sure u have enought money to do it. (suffolk only gets 25% back from the fares. the state gives us less then they should, and the county chips in more though taxes, so if they are low then they get even less moeny, but if they raise them u get the rest of the county, ppl who maynot ride the system, mad at you) i'm sorry but its a lose-lose, no matter what.

No, you really stop being anal or worried about what is going to be disaster right now.

Suffolk Transit needs lots of improvement, yet you want a tiny improvement with little satisfaction in service?

Sufflok Transit should have MetroCard right now. It would be easier and convince to not carry change, transferring buses and even LIB, also connecting with LIRR via UniTicket program

define needs lots of improvemnet please?, cuz SCT has cleaner buses (inside), a better on time record then the MTA, friendly drivers, and low prices. the only thing they don't have is 24 hour routes and Sunday service and Saturday service on some routes. the only thing they lack is that the roads get jammed during rush hour and make some buses late (though there is nothing they can do with that), it souds alright to me. and no, needing Metro Cards does not count as an improvement because that doesn't help anyone except the people who have them. which i doubt are alot of SCT passengers since most are poor and elderly

, a better on time record then the MTA
Yeah right, look at s92 on time record.,

friendly drivers
So, their job is to drive you to the destination safety as possible

and low prices.
Low prices for one way fare only. How about a person goes on the bus to ride multiple times a day, a week, a month? Maybe they could go to MetroCard operation and start using it like inmost agency in this area use it.

the only thing they don't have is 24 hour routes and Sunday service and Saturday service on some routes.
Suffolk Transit can run 24 hr / 7 days on some routes with high ridership. But most of ST routes can run 16 to 18 hours on 7 days with decent headways if it is possible.

the only thing they lack is that the roads get jammed during rush hour and make some buses late (though there is nothing they can do with that), it souds alright to me.
Well it sounds like Suffolk Transit did not update their timetables in ages so with increasing traffic, they should alter or adjust the schedule right now.

and no, needing Metro Cards does not count as an improvement because that doesn't help anyone except the people who have them. which i doubt are alot of SCT passengers since most are poor and elderly
Well you are an idiot.

MetroCards does provide an improvement and benefits with some discounts on pay per ride, unlimited rides ( means cheaper fare if you ride multiple times); and for the elderly; easy to handle to put the card in the farebox without carry the change to pay the fare.

But you forget some people do ride Suffolk Transit; college students, so there is another benefit

So which one you prefer:

(A) Leave Suffolk Transit operations alone as it is

- or -

(B) Make some major changes to Suffolk Transit operations (e.g. more buses, better schedules and headways, add Sunday service; etc.)

SCT does not really need MetroCard at the current time. Maybe in the near future yes but right now no. What they need right now is to offer discounted unlimited ride and per-ride passes as a way to get ridership on their buses. They already got the TRIM units on their GFI fareboxes to print transfers so those TRIM units can be used to print out and process passes through there.

and thats one route, that only has its a peak amount of ridership the last month its run, still doesn't make a case for Sunday Service, because also from what i hear its more geared to the LIRR riders then SCT riders.

1) to see if there are more riders then the last time they had a study

2) to see what lines are the busiest

3) to see where ppl get on and prob where they get off, to see if there are alot of ppl getting on/off at one place.

4) age of a rider, adult, student, elderly that kind

5) how many adults students, elderly ride the route. i had the same driver that was doing this survy, and on the same route ask me, five years ago why there weren't more students taking the bus. and the only reason i was takeing the bus that day was because my school district was having a fight with the bus company they were using.

not every study is to fix problems. there are studys to find other info.

but u are banking on people who work in a place that has 'shifts'. there aren't many places like that, that i know of out here in Suffolk.

There is a place out in Suffolk that has "shifts"..or some sense. On Saturday morning, LIBUS operates a N70 route from Hempstead to Mellville(it leaves at 6am..it's the ONLY trip of the day). I'm assuming this is for business on Route 110 who would normally use the S1 but don't since the S1 doesn't operate until 7Am.
The best way to improve service is to improve lines. For instance, the last bus on Saturdays on the S1 is 6:15pm from Amityville Station and arrives at Halesite at 7:25pm. It then deadheads back. Wouldn't it make better sense since the bus is going back anyway to run it in service..at least to Copaigue where it can turn off to the garage. That makes sense.
