Re: does Dr. Ron M. Aryel needs be B7d from here?

Who?

- People who right now are posting that other posters should die, or have done so in the past.

- People who take the belittling of those they disagree with beyond the intellectual level like Ron does and to the highly personal level. Train Dude's belittling of BrooklynQB and qtraindash7 was a far more intense level of ad hominem attack than anything Ron has ever done.

- People whose obscene and vulgar responses to posts they don't like go far beyond any bad taste Ron has ever shown.

Re: JohnL needs to let Will learn and worry about his own posting

Before we get to the rest of your advice, let's cover this:

"Maybe true. You donít say why. I think I would disagree with this as there are currently two high-profile DBOM contracts in the region that I can think of off the top of my head: JFK AirTrain and the RiverLine."

AirTrain is run by a private operator on contract to the Port Authority. MTA could hire the same operator, so your point is well taken. Riverline is similar, as you correctly point out. So I agree with you there.

"Delete paragraph. Condescending"

That's too bad. It fits, and it stays. Get over it.

"Irrelevant. The main job of an engineer is to be an engineer and come up with engineering solutions."

False statement. The junior engineer does that. The Chief Engineer has to know a lot more. The program manager has to know the big picture.

Look up the people I cited and then come back and tell me what they were responsible for, and which audiences they had to satisfy. and while we're at it, what did Von Braun do early on that pissed off the Mercury 7? And why did he change it?

"It takes time to pick up on that - and you're not there yet."

Maybe that applies to you too. Don't like it. Tough. Get over it.

If you and everyone else would force Ron out, you wouldn't need to see some of the above posts. Those posts are a direct reaction to the despicable posting habits of Dr. Ron M. Aryel of Kansas City, MO, who is single handedly ruining SubChat. We can't have a good discussion here without Dr. Ron M. Aryel of Kansas City, MO jumping in and ruining it with his unprovoked, condescending, ad hominem attacks on respected posters.

I think this is a behaivor inclusive of all doctors. I see many doctors for my arthritus and gout. And they all seem to be the same. They are know it alls who can't even agree with one another. One will prescribe a medication to me and the other will say stop taking it or only take it when you need to.
Other doctors have told me I have damage to my spine from osteoarthritis and another will tell me its only a little arthritis don't worry about it.
And the positively worst doctors are the transit doctors at the medical assesment centers. Why would a doctor want to work for NYC transit. They must really be bad doctors or they are double dipping and have another practice once they punch out of 207 Street.

Re: Will We Ever Get Light Rail?

Posted by BrooklynBus on Sun Jul 30 19:42:57 2006, in response to Re: WillD needs to learn more., posted by RonInBayside on Sun Jul 30 12:50:32 2006.

One of the reasons the MTA is against light rail is just that they fear change. They were against using smaller buses. They were against larger (artic) buses. They were against low floor buses.

They even resisted air conditioning the subways for a good number of years because they insisted it couldn't be done from an engineering point of view. First they said the stations were too close unlike commuter rail, so the cold air would escape. After years of pressure, they finally air-conditioned the IRT-BMT but resisted for about five more years saying the IRT couldn't be air conditoned because the cars were too small until someone pointed out that PATH cars were smaller and they were air conditioned.

The point is after all their obstinance, reason finally won out in most instances but it wasn't easy. They reason they didn't want to introduce diferent types and sizes of buses was because they didn't want to have to maintain multiple types of fleets with the extra costs involved, i.e. increased inventory of parts, additional trining for mechanics, etc. Their points are valid and I suspect this is their rationale also for opposing light rail. They're looking at all the negatives and ignoring all the positives which is typical of the MTA when it comes to change.

I can't say I disagree. My colleagues unfortunately do that. And it is not in the best interests of patients.

Sometimes we docs can also get into "tunnel vision" where we focus on one diagnosis early on and forget to "leave the door open." Besides broader training and better use of statistics, I think computerized decision support can help too. It is being used experimentally - though probably not at the TA!

Sometimes you get "tunnel vision" and think that you know what is going on but really many people around you know much more about a certain subject, and they even bring PROFF, which you do not.

Ron, obviously youíre not there yet.

You will convince more people and make much more cogent arguments if you take out the condescention.

Also, Will has been part of several engineering teams. He has talked about his experiences working for Philadelphia water supply.

I have been a member of several software engineering teams.

How many engineering teams have you been a member of?

I don't see why someone would have to pay another fare. Drivers frequently let passengers stay on at the terminal stop for the same fare if they've missed their stop. If the bus is going out of service, he can take them back to Mackenzie St.

The guard could also board the bus at Mackenzie St and ask the passengers to hold up their passes. Although this might be a little difficult if the buses are very crowded. Or a control area could be built inside the College where passengers without passes would have to take the next bus back. The guard could explain so another fare wouldn't have to be paid.

All this is moot anyway since IDs aren't checked anyway. And anyone with a car can enter the Campus without ID as long as he states his business with the guard and it's legitimate. I've done this numerous times to attend Community Board Meetings.

I think the College is wrong for not wanting to make life a little easier for its students and personnel especially during cold and inclement weather.

This is a perfect example of your condescension and disrespect. The fact that you would claim that other people are beneath you and that you MUST talk down to them.

NEWS FLASH: You have no respect remaining here, if anything, you are the one who others should talk down to as you are clearly beneath us with your childish, condescending attitude.

Yes, that is bad, but occassional missteps can be tolerated if the person otherwise conducts himself politely.

Is there anybody who does this consistently?

One can run the (W) past Whitehall, then run it on revamped express tracks on the Sea Beach and then continue it on the Bay Ridge when the Sea Beach diverges from it. Stations can be built where needed (like at Bklyn College for example). This would be more successful then a LRT.
