Nope. You are 100% wrong about almost everything you have written in this thread. And the only things you got correct were just repeats of what others said before you, or otherwise irrelevant information.

How about this: If you are wrong, you'll never post on any forum that is part of the "SubChat" family of forums ever again. And if I am wrong then I will apologize? How does that sound?

You're 100% falseagain. That exit is usually closed and securely locked.
The key and electronic lock controls are held and operated by the TA superintendant on duty at the station.
It is open once in a graet while.
But not 24/7 as you stated.

No, you're wrong. The parking lot is accessible for free from the AirTrain station at Howard Beach.

You pay $5 ONLY if you walk through the fare control passage that leads to the Howard Beach - JFK Airport subway station. In that case, you pay $7.25, including your subway fare. There is NO CHARGE to leave the AirTrain station via ground level to the long-term parking lot.

Wait a minute, I just had an interesting thought. I, as an NYCT employee, under no circumstances am charged money to access our bus and subway network. I ride for free.

Tell me then, if I were to ride the AirTrain to Howard Beach, how I can get into the subway for free while only playing the $5 AirTrain fare?

No, you're wrong. The parking lot is accessible for free from the AirTrain station at Howard Beach.

No, you're wrong. From the subway station at Howard Beach, you CAN NOT get to the JFK parking lot. You could take airtrain to Lefferts Blvd. But you'd have to pay $5 to enter Airtrain. You'd have to talk to the TSA people at the station about getting past the Airtrain turnstiles for free. And as I've said, there is no way to get to the parking area from the subway.

You pay $5 ONLY if you walk through the fare control passage that leads to the Howard Beach - JFK Airport subway station. In that case, you pay $7.25, including your subway fare. There is NO CHARGE to leave the AirTrain station via ground level to the long-term parking lot.

You would pay $5 and $2.25 (total $7.25) if you were to go directly from Airtrain to the subway. Seeing that you say you're a TA employee, You'd still have to pay $5 to enter or leave Airtrain then use your EPIC pass to enter the TA turnstiles for the subway. In other words, you'd have to go thru 2 sets of turnstiles. I'm sure you knew that already.

Wait a minute, I just had an interesting thought. I, as an NYCT employee, under no circumstances am charged money to access our bus and subway network. I ride for free.

The subway would be free if you have your EPIC pass. But you'd still have to pay $5 for Airtrain. You'd have to talk to the TSA people about skipping the $5 fare. The TA agent can't help you on that.

Tell me then, if I were to ride the AirTrain to Howard Beach, how I can get into the subway for free while only playing the $5 AirTrain fare?

You got that much right. You'd have to pay the $5 to get out thru the Airtrain turnstile. Then use your EPIC pass to enter thru the TA turnstile to get on the subway. You'd have to go thru 2 turnstiles.

We're not talking about going from the Howard Beach - JFK Airport subway station to the long-term parking lot. What we're TRYING to tell you is that you CAN access the long-term parking lot from the Howard Beach AIRTRAIN STATION.

Also, IINM, there's only ONE set of turnstiles between the AirTrain station and the subway station, and this ONE set of turnstiles automatically deducts $7.25 from your MetroCard. Therefore, inserting my Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard would deduct $7.25, because the turnstiles don't know I'm an employee, and inserting my employee pass would yield nothing, as it's not valid on AirTrain.

This is an interesting thought. I'm going to explore this.

There are turnstiles that let you outside of subway fare control. Otherwise, Airtrain's unlimited and 10-trip Metrocard holders won't be able to get out. Likewise, if you have a subway/bus unlimited Metrocard, you go around that way instead of the $7.25 transfer turnstiles.

An exit is an exit, emergency or not. What you're implying is that the exit doesn't exist, when there is photographic evidence to the contrary. Forget abou the fact that particular exit is labeled "Emergency Exit" for a moment. If there's an emergency which requires people to vacate the platform, can the exit be used? That's fine, but making it free would lead to complete assymetry in passenger flows. Fine, the HB leg never leaves airport property, but through its interaction with the A train there it creates the same sort of airport access that the Jamaica branch does. It is the trip generation and termination points that are the key in determining whether something is or isn't a circulator. No trip is going to begin on the MTA side of the Airtrain fare control, they're going to come from elsewhere in the city and region. Thus that leg of Airtrain is providing airport access and will thusly be charged as such. In this one case Douce Man is right.

The only viable way to provide a free trip from HB to JFK is to also make the JAM to JFK leg free as John suggested. That then brings with it the problem of through-riding passengers and how they'd fit into the city and airport's fare structure. If the fee for Airtrain is distributed amongst all passengers regardless of their use of the system then we may see people find lower fares elsewhere.

'No'. What a highly refined response. Please detail and explain why you disagree. I simply posted additional information on the subject. short of going out there and paying $5 (or not, depending on what you find) and making multiple photos of the site and provide proof of your own statements, what facts have you offered as evidence that you are in the right?
