Or they had family commitments that could not be adjusted (even for a blizzard) and had to be home. Not everyone can just stay at hotel like that.

If they NEED to be at their desks in their office buildings and not from home as you claim, they'll find a way to get there without the subway running.

the fallout could be WAY bigger than anyone thinks.

And I might wake up tomorrow and the sky will be pink. I'll let you know how it turns out.

They likely aren't spending much time doing that because as it has already been explained to you, no such legal statute exists. Posting it over and over again doesn't change that fact.

Maybe, however, the spouse might still insist on the worker coming home.

I would not be surprised if some of those workers put up in hotels by Cuomo's order to shut down the lines leads to more than a few divorces because the spouse wants the worker in question home.

Yes, by most, however.....

If something had gone wrong, a rival candidate would use it in attack ads against Cuomo whether it be in a 2018 re-election bid for Governor and/or a 2020 or '24 Presidential bid. That is what Cuomo was likely afraid of, but instead, it backfired and a lot of people are STILL PO'ed at Cuomo over this.

This may not be forgotten as easily as some think, especially by those who now may have to miss Super Bowl parties because they have to go into work to make up for the lost workday(s). If that happens, there could be some lawsuits (likely laughed out of court) by people who had their Super Bowl weekend "ruined" by Cuomo's decision.

Doesn't mean they won't try.

Assuming they can't, they will find other ways to get back at Cuomo, and that most likely would be to fund campaigns for the House and Senate by Republican candidates on a far more ramped up basis to make it far more difficult for the Democrats to regain control of the House and Senate in 2016.

I'm sure many Democrats right now are very worried about Wall Street doing just that because Cuomo violated Rule #1 of politics. Wall Street is STILL PO'ed and they will find a way to get back at Cuomo, even if not directly with the Deomcratic Party likely being punished for what Cuomo did. Given the worries many already have about the GOP trying to wreck the economy to keep their wealthy donors happy, it's why I can see the Democratic Party furious with Cuomo for perhaps inadvertently killing any chance they have of getting back both Legislative branches in 2016.

My apologies for going off like that, but as a Democrat who is familiar with what has been going on in politics that I follow closely, I know many who follow more closely are very concerned about ANYTHING that can hurt the Dems in 2016. All you need to do is go through articles on various outlets to see some of the more outrageous views we have seen from the Republicans and why this level of concern.

That was my original thought before I realized how bad Cuomo looked and others pointed out it was NOT the "Ambulance Chasers" who did it.

As people noted elsewhere, it likely was Cuomo fearing the MTA would screw up with it making the national news the way the (A) train did in 2010 and torpedoing his political hopes that was why he did it, only to see it backfire and his now being slammed.

As Mentioned in another post, the problem with 9 Av LL is there are a couple of small areas in the 38 St Cut that are on solid ground and exposed to the elements so that trains probably couldn’t even make it to 9 Av even the under cover portion.

People in Kansas and Michigan could care less about the NYC subway system and frankly some commerical talking about trains in a blizzard would be seen as stupid and dumpster-divey. Cuomo has more than enough negitives to make whatever would've happened in the Blizzard-that-wasn't non-news even to the most amoral and desperate political operative.

The MTA and advisors in Albany do know what thousands of slip-and-fall lawsuits would do, and this more than anything enters into the decision making calculus than anything.

No, but people in other states might very well care about that.

And what happens if there had been slip-and-fall lawsuits from people who had to WALK to and/or from work because their employers made them come in shutdown or not? Many people were already at work when the shutdown was announced and could not leave before it shutdown in many cases.

Sadly, we may have gotten to the point where it is CHEAPER to deal with slip-and-fall suits because of keeping the subways open than closing the subways and having Wall Street PO'ed at Cuomo or whoever is Governor and in this case the Democrats as a whole. It wouldn't surprise me if Democratic Party leaders behind closed doors scolded Cuomo over this and made it clear that Wall Street is too important to the national economy to piss off and unless it's a Sandy or Irene situation to NOT shut the subways down like that again.

We may sadly be at the point where appeasing Wall Street comes first. It may take the MTA having to now stay open outside of an Irene/Sandy situation with it made clear it is ONLY being done to appease Wall Street and a catastrophe happening to change that.

They don't have to think about this:

All you have to do is for example is remember Swift Boat was brought up against John Kerry in 2004. Swift Boat was over 30 years earlier, yet that was believed to have torpedoed his bid for the White House.

Cuomo having a headline of a subway being stuck in 2015 would be long forgotten by 2020 or '24 (or even 2018 in a re-election bid for Governor), however, rival opponents who have smart people working behind them dig stuff up like that years later and it can come back to haunt him.
