...that only the fine denizens of this board can answer. I did some fanning in the city last week. An inquiring mind wants to know!

First, the basics:

1) What is SMEE? I'm guessing something specific to the two-handled vs. one-handled control mechanism.

2) Took the PATH out to Newark, and that thing just flew between JSQ & Harrison. I don't think I've ever been on an urban/metro train that has travelled that fast. Pretty exciting. What's the speed on this thing, and why does it (seemingly) go so much faster than NYCT?

3) What's the C/R's door procedure? In comparison to Toronto, there was always a noticeable wait between the train coming to a stop and the doors opening, and the train departing after the doors have been locked down (allowing for the obvious additional delay if you are in the first-closed segment of the train). At terminals, this delay was even longer.

Then, the oddities:

4) Whitehall & Broad St stations are named after the street under which their lines (briefly) run, rather than a cross-street. Are they unique in this way and is there some reason for this seemingly unnecessary confusion? (ie. Whitehall could just as easily be 'South Ferry' & Broad St 'Wall St')

5) The R160 announcements identified the E as a "X-bound 'E' train" and the F as a "X-bound 'F' local train". Why the distinction when they both run express on Queens Blvd and local everywhere else?

6) The map marks stations as "All Trains Stop" or "Local Service" with the black & white dots, which makes sense along the trunk lines but isn't entirely consistent. Example: Grand St & High St are white dots and 2nd Av & Essex are black dots. But in fact, every train that passes through any of those stations at any time will be stopping, and most of those trains will be doing both local & express running at some point during their run. Shouldn't these be either all white or all black?

7) More map weirdness: diamond status is awarded to the peak-direction express service of the 6 & 7, but not apparently the D. And likewise the part-time extensions of the G & M are dotted-line, but the part-time 5 to Flatbush is not.

Thanks guys...now I'll be able to rest easy!
