Much as I hate to say this, I think Terrapin is right. randyosaid AFAIK, there is a switch in the T/O cab that allows for the field shunting to be cut in or out as needed. and of course that "ENERCON" switch has indeed been disabled. But the field shunts are still active in two other ways: During switching to cushion the starting torque, and during coasting to reduce the generated EMF and allow for a low spotting current to be maintained. |
