Yankee Stadium and the old IRT 9th Ave. El Connection

I walked north past the new stadium site, and noted that the old IRT 9th Ave. El connection from the Jerome Ave. Line, whose stub is still very much there curving onto 162nd Street, would have gone right through the outfield of the new stadium if it were still in business. Ironically, the old 9th Ave. El connection, by then the Polo Grounds Shuttle, was closed for good exactly 50 years ago (August 31, 1958) because the Giants had moved to San Francisco and took away most of the shuttle's traffic.
