No...

Myrtle wasn't as bad as they say...

it had a minor rebuild during the 50's..

The problem here was the fact that it was a victim of developers...and of extreme short sightedness.

While it is true that SOME work was needed to upgrade it the B-DIVISION standards..where heavier cars Could have been used..the TA decided that it was no longer needed,DESPITE THE HEAVY USAGE..it would have saved money removing it than saving it.

There was More to this than they were ever willing to PUBLICLY announce..but demographics had a major part to play in its removal.

Plainly speaking..the neighborhood was changing..and the devoloper wanted to gut EVERY SINGLE HOME along Myrtle ave from downtown to Broadway..and replace them with "Model Cities" type homes pushed during the 50's-70's...

It was no surprise that the city took the FIRST step by building the rows of housing projects/condo's...and the "developer" backed out afterwards...leaving vaccant lots in his wake, and the elevated rail line gone.
