Through service from Nassau St. survived for 5 years after the IND takeover south of Ditmas. But the NYCTA or whatever organization was running the system then wanted no part of maintaining this line and it gradually decreased service (and patronage) to the point that it could consider abandonment. The service cuts drove ridership down, not vice versa. It was a policy which worked well on the 3rd Ave el starting after WWII.
