Those trips screwed up the railroad big time

Probably a few times, but I doubt it was the norm.

there were jurisdictional issues about "Crew assignments" where people from the "wrong division" were operating equipment in "another division" and a whole raft of hurt that came out of all of that.

Oh boo hoo hoo. This is special. Either ignore the whiners or figure out how to make everyone "happy", without shafting the fans.
